Resident 2011 - 2013

10/2/2013

We lived at The Villager for two years in a 2/1 upstairs unit and below are the pros & cons of living there. My suggestion is take pics of everything before you move in and get a copy of everything you sign!!! W/o it you will be defenseless when you are moving away. Pros: 1) Nice grounds 2) Friendly and responsive maintenance staff 3) Close to Disneyland, Angels Stadium, Shopping, Ducks Stadium, Santa Ana Bike Trail 4) Covered Parking for 1 car 5) Outside storage locker at your car stall 6) Decent laundry facilities 7) Apartments are roomy and decent. Nothing fancy, but clean 8) Central Heat 9) 2 pools: one with BBQ grills, hot tub and party room Cons: 1) Management staff changes constantly and with that so does the information you are told during renewal, issues that come up, etc. Really Annoying!! I marked "staff" with 2 stars, but it isn't because they are slow its because the story is never the same and they are quick to tell you why they can't do something. 2) Towing - We were towed 3 times while other cars were allowed to sit for months (there is a 48 hr max. that a vehicle can stay in one place). They use CALPARK, which is an outside company that comes in and checks the stickers on cars. If your veh. doesn't have a sticker, is not registered (which must be maintained), parked in a spot too long, or in the wrong spot, you get towed w/o a phone call or chance to move. The pick-up location is in Westminster. 3) Renewals - know that your renewal agreement will look nothing like your first agreement. And whatever you are told about the amounts changing/not changing, ignore it b/c the manager there when you sign will not be the manager when you renew and all deals are off. Year 1: $1480/mo, Year 2: 1520, then 1620. 4) The Pool Area - the pool area is never quiet. It is always swarmed by kids unless it is a school day and during school hours. On weekends, get ready for the parties of random people that stream in and out of the complex. Some weekends it got ridiculous with people bringing bands and sound equipment. 5) Busy Streets - The complex is on the corner of two busy streets. 6) No Guest Parking - unless on the busy streets. 7) No A/C other than a window unit in the living room. The widows are old and single-pane, so you will pay a premium on your electric bill when you use it. 8) Pets: only birds, cats, and aquariums are allowed w/ pet deposit. NO DOGS unless you have a medical reason OR hide it...like many residents do. 9) For the car people: The sprinklers near the open parking spaces are not directed to just the landscaping so they will leave water spots all over your car. 10) Had an expensive vehicle damaged in the parking lot and corporate was non-cooperative in helping us get the footage so we could see who did it. The vehicle was parked by one of the gates in plain view of the cameras and we were given every excuse in the book as to why they couldn't provide it. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!! 11) Things YOU will pay for upon moving out: Re-painting the apartment($70-250), Cleaning the carpets($70), Cleaning the apartment($80), counter-top resurfacing ($125) All of this is provided in a "move out statement" along w/ any remainder of your $750 deposit and little to no documentation to backup the charges shown. 12) Good luck dealing with Corporate to discuss your deposit refund or any issues for that matter.
