Resident ā€¢ 2006 - 2007

Hello, I have been living in this apartment complex for only 8 months and have desperately been trying to find a person with whom I could vent the numerous aspects (should I say defects?) that I think could be changed.

Let's start where anyone would start. The PARKING LOT. Apparantly, someone was SHOT there. I don't know if people are supposed to get shot in gated communities, but maybe just maybe, it was an accident, right? Maybe the security guard who SLEEPS IN HIS CAR when he's supposed to be watching phoned the police a few hours after the murder. And, why do we pay for a gated community when you can easily jump right over the wall in the Vanowen/DeSoto corner. Easy as pie. I've done it when I was locked out. Oh, did I mention there was a gate on DeSoto? It appears to be just for looks, as I can't figure out whether it's a functioning entry passage or a decoration. It's PADLOCKED. There are lights in the lot to convieniently light the street while you walk to your car in total darkness. I think that the lights were probably the most expensive thing on the landowner's "To Buy" list as they appear to have come from laser beams.

The walk to the office is nice, because the jungle-like atmosphere (tropical in the summer) covers up the numerous COCKROACHES having fiestas on the wall, any day, any time of the year. They just DON'T GO AWAY. Occasionally they'll migrate to someone else's side and all you'll have to see are the MASSIVE SPIDERS making nests where your children sleep. Once, a bubble appeared in the ceiling right in front of my door, and when I poked it (as it shouldn't be there), it poured a large amount of FOUL-SMELLING LIQUID in my hair. Then, the gaping hole in the ceiling wasn't fixed for over two weeks. I bet that went just fine during the maintenance staff's weekly drug session's, but to me, that's very unprofessional.

The interior of the apartments are quaint, not a bad place to live if you have lots of expensive furniture to cover every last piece of wall up. The crown moldings CRACK. Well, not crack per se, but they split apart where they should have been attached. The one light they provided looks like it was made by drug dealer who sells antiques on the weekend. The door will sometimes OPEN BY ITSELF, even when locked.

The bathroom was alright, albeit small, until the ceiling fan that was supposed to keep it dry started producing dust and various other unhealthy soot-like particles that we are still in the process of trying to get looked at. I wouldn't even care if they fixed it if they just came over for 2 minutes and just looked at the damn thing. I bet the maintenance staff spends more time at the bar down the street than in people's apartments fixing ACTUAL, SERIOUS, HEALTH-AT-RISK problems.

Oh, and when we moved in, our balcony was falling off. Yes, there was a cheese shape gap of AIR between the wall and the balcony that was about 15 degrees when we moved in. They didn't fix it until months later when someone noticed that it was DETATCHING ITSELF FROM THE WALL. Our damn balcony could've killed us and we didn't even get an apology. That's how you know that you're being totally mistreated, not just underappreciated.

The garbage disposal in the sink went out at least a week ago. We requested a handyman to come look at it, and instead we were given a LECTURE by our very own manager about leaving our trash in an inappropriate area. By my standards, you absolutely DO NOT provide low quality service to those that pay your bills, and then have the audacity to complain about our tenancy. I have had received better service from just about anywhere, and would have every reason to believe that prisoners also receive better service. Anyway, long story short, they finally came to check it out three days after they had promised, and when they left, we were stuck with yet another fine - this one for $79.99 (yes, US currency) which we just cannot pay. What's more is that they claimed to have found a shopped up plastic spoon in it and charged us $64.99 for a "new garbage disposal". I wasn't aware that a plastic spoon could cause this kind of damage. I doubt this was actually the issue, and would have no qualms about calling management and using the terms UNPROFESSIONAL, DECEITFUL, and MALICIOUS as I described the way they treat their residents.

Management is beyond belief. How any of these people maintain steady jobs that involve customer service is beyond the knowledge of God himself. They are untrustworthy, and very impolite and bad-mannered, almost to the point of offensive. They accomplish almost nothing and then slap you with a bill. They must get some sort of sexual gratification from charging obscene amounts of money from their tenants, as there can be no other understanding of why they desire it so much. On top of the $1,102.00 rent check, we have paid $50.00 to have our door unlocked, an extra $300.00 for our cat, now an $80.00 garbage disposal fee, we are spoken down to by the management and their maintenace staff who most likely lack social security numbers or tax ID's. In my opinion, Atlantic City is better maintained and I would be surprised at all if an entire building here fell over and it wasn't cleaned for several years. Bottom line: This place just isn't maintained. They just sweep problems under the rug and absolutely IGNORE tenants pressing DEMANDS for a safe place by strategically sidestepping issues at hand and verbally insulting the tenants for having a smaller life with an income that doesn't rival that of any A-list movie star. The amount of problems that have popped up and were NEVER FIXED alone range in the tens.

All that needs to be said about security is that they do not have the ability to open the main gate (even for someone leaving), and that they spend most hours of the night as everyone else in the complex does - SLEEPING. Yes, in their own cars, with the heater on. His comfort causes much distress for any unlucky enough to catch him, as it provides you with the feeling of insecurity. As stated in the title, someone was shot here on a security guard's watch. Let me tell you how horrible of a feeling it is to feel like your life is being threatened in your OWN DAMN PARKING LOT.

Now, we live on the second story, and don't have too many noise problems apart from hearing the plumbing of our neighbors through the walls (which always makes us think the shower is on). However, even though we are here no more than 13 hours from 6 pm - 7 am the next morning, we have received constant complaints from our downstairs neighbor, who can, as she puts it, "can hear every step we take". To me, this sounds like being schizophrenic and as much as I try to be quiet, tossing in my bed at night could wake her up by itself. I secretly harbor the notion that the pergo "hardwood" floors actually amplify the noise rather than insulate it and actually feel bad about not letting her sleep.

----- (Apparantly a Leasing Consultant) is who we "consult" with on an everyday basis is an incredibly rude and derisive person. ----- -------- (Our Property Manager) is a person whose qualities can only be seen by the pope himself, on a VERY forgiving day. I have had nothing but problems with this cowardly woman who I'm sure SCREENS OUR PHONE CALLS in order to not speak to us. I suppose maybe we call her during her period every month, but that excuse would be too easy to use. No, she is perpetually cranky and maybe just a little (READ: Extremely) APATHETIC to our concerns, yet jumps at the prospect of taking our hard earned money and stuffing it into her pocket for whatever reason she deems chargeable. With all my passion I would avoid her if I ever saw her our of our complex, and as a result of her management, I feel like an unpaid -----. Her work depresses me and I feel that we have very little say in her actions and that if it weren't fear of having to scrounge for a place to live now I would leave this place forever and a strongly-worded letter on their doormat that would have some very blasphemous terms in it.

All in all, this place is good to look at, and just beyond sub-par to live in. I feel like an ant who just stepped into a roach motel. The only way this place could be worse is if noxious fumes were emanating from the AC (which, by the way, was not fixed for QUITE A WHILE during our massive heat wave - let me repeat - temperatures of OVER 110 DEGREES in summer without AC - this could kill a grown man or woman) and the management were constantly threatening eviction. Well, maybe we can hope the first doesn't come true.

Really, truly, I would probably feel better being the person who got shot than feeling like nothing more significant than ordinary trash. I suggest passing this place off on your search for an apartment, as it will suck your savings and spirit away during your tenancy. Other places are cheaper anyway.
