Resident ā€¢ 2010 - 2012

5/1/2012

So this place really is beautiful. But the apartments are very poorly built. There's not water pressure in our sink and when I put a work order in I was told it works fine and there's nothing to fix. There are so many people that move out after just a short time. I didn't pay too much attention to it until we got our lease renewal. They increased our rent by $300! My husband was deployed at the time so essentially I was a single mom. To move was a nightmare alone with a small child and not knowing anyone at all in the area. However, to pay the increase was impossible. I wrote a letter to the manager ----- but his response was "I'm sorry." So I hd no other option but to move. I looked at apartments in the area and put a $300 deposit on a new place, also part of Equity Residential. THE DAY after I put my deposit down, Missions called saying they'll only raise my rent by $70. It was a total scam. I looked at Better Buisness Beauro (sp) and there were fourty complaints in one month related to this company. It's awesome that we get to leave our trash outside our door three days a week and it gets picked up. However!!! Imagine the juice that drips out from all the trash with every resident. The entry way is DISGUSTING! I can only imagine if there was a swab done of the cement. I put in one complaint asking for the exterior to get pressure washed and I got an e-mail right away to all residents in my building saying that it'd get done that following week. I'm certain this email was sent only for documentation. Needless to say, it never got washed. I put in another request saying I recieved the e-mail but no action has yet been taken. Since I sent it, me and my family have been treated like crap from the management. ----- seems friendly at first, but is obsessed with ----- and requests tennants do things that aren't even in the lease. My car was parked outside my own garage and they towed it saying it was in a fire lane. My vehicle was at least 30 feet away from any fire lane. It cost $370 to get it out of impound. I went to the management saying "I didn't call the tow company on myself?! ----- said, "well ----- sent an e-mail out about it. I reviewed my emails and there was nothing of the sort. We found another apartment through Equity in another state and found out that we can move without any lease breaking fees as long as it's an Equity Residential community 50 miles away. So we put in our notice and were met with nothing but resistance from -----. "No, you have to pay two months rent and I don't know what you're talking about." It took us raising hell with management and getting our new apartment community to fight for us and provide us with the documentation that all Equity employees should be fully aware of. I read on the BBB reviews that the biggest scheme is when you move out and try to get your deposit back that you never get anything back. We'll see if the happens but I'm prepared to fight as high as I need to ensure we get what belongs to us. The maintenance crew really is great though. They've been very nice to us and fix what they can usually the next day. There's nothing they can do with poor construction and cheap parts though. Bottom line, I'm so excited to get away from the management here. It drives me crazy every time I see them escorting a potential new resident around. I wanna sneak up and tell them the truth of the place so they don't make the same mistake we did.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Equity and the team at Missions at Sunbow appreciate the opportunity to learn from your experience and to improve our community. We do our best to work with residents regarding rent increases, which are calculated according to the current market rates for the types of apartments available. We do try to notify residents when these rates go down after the initial renewal offer, which can happen as rates fluctuate. We are happy to offer valet trash service. We power wash each building every three months, and other times by request. If you would like this service performed, let us know and we can let you know when it will be scheduled. As for parking, we often remind residents of the community parking rules, which prohibit parking in front of garages. If you see a violation of this policy, or have any questions, please speak with us about it. We want to ensure that you are very satisfied with your apartment, and would be happy to discuss any of these concerns with you. Feel free to drop by the office anytime, or contact us at missionssunbow@eqr.com or at (619) 628-8583.
