Resident ā€¢ 2015

12/31/2015

My experience at Avenue of the Arts wasn't just bad or disappointing it was atrocious. There were three major issues. First let me premise this with saying in my entire life I have gone out of my way to leave a bad review 3 times including this time. I only do it when I feel a duty to protect my fellow American from a company. The first time was another notoriously bad apartment complex in Newport Beach that had issues with theft and noise problems and chose to do nothing. If you can''t protect your residents you have an issue. The second was a moving company that sent two people as old as my grandfather to move me and it took 9 hours to move from Irvine to Long Beach. I was a single guy living in a one bedroom apartment. And then we have this company. 1. Management. Finding the correct words to describe the management team here is difficult given I can't swear, but the best way to put it is the corporate culture is to give fake half hearted apologies every time there is an issue and then assume that solves the problem. If the customer is still unsatisfied with the apology they must be unreasonable. This is the attitude all the way up the ladder to corporate trust me I went that far and got the same treatment the entire way. Issues 2 and 3 are why I contacted them. 2. Packages: So first off packages can be an issue for many apartment complexes. Some use an electronic logging system others refuse to accept them. Both solutions aren't perfect, but at least the inconveniences are clear cut. 3400's solution is to accept all packages and make a note on a sheet of paper. They don't call you, they don't email you, You simply have to know when you get a package by guessing apparently. Now that wouldn't be the end of the world most of the time you have a tracking number, but sometimes you don't. So they need to be diligent if you do come to check for packages right? WRONG!!!! One time I was looking for a fedex with 4 tickets to an Angels game. Face value on these tickets was $360. They claimed they had no package for me from fedex. Fedex claimed they did. Unfortunately turns out fedex was right they had the package all along they didn't look hard enough. So I was out $360 worth of tickets. I told management they did nothing. I asked for them to take it off my next month's payment they said that wasn't possible. Ok so clearly they don't care. Then In November I purchased a home. Escrow documents were sent to me via fedex. I had also ordered a santa suit for xmas around the same time. While I was out of town ovr the thanksgiving holiday I was informed that both packages should have been delivered. I went on Monday Nov 30 no packages. On December 2 My fiance went because fedex left us a note about another package and yet still no sign of the other two. I went again on December 4 still nothing. On December 10th My realtor asked why I hadn't returned the escrow documents and I said I still didn't get them. I went to the office and guess what? Both the Santa Suit and fedex were there they were marked Nov 29 and 27 respectively. Call me crazy, but that would mean they were there the last three times I asked. Anyone who has ever bought a home knows its stressful enough without incompetence. So Again contact management this time I went up the ladder to the infamous Matt that the fake reviews praise. He gave me the same song and dance. "i'm sorry but there is nothing I can do." I should add I emailed Matt and left my personal cell for him to call me. He chose to email me instead. (Shocking) At this point I called corporate and again explained the situation. Again "i'm sorry there is nothing we can do, but thank you for bringing it to our attention." Of course they then went on to explain what they are already doing to solve future issues, which I have heard since I moved in a year ago and I repeatedly explained I am already moving out that doesn't help me. They again did not care. sigh 3. Maintenance: Now maintenance is an issue at lots of complexes and for lots of reasons. However 3400 wants you to believe these are luxury apartments. For the record we had a renovated unit not an old one so the following items are going to seem a bit ridiculous. When we moved in our dish washer was mounted improperly it literally fell out of the cabinet one day. It also didn't release the soap every time. A maintenance person explained to us on the condition I not ever use his name that the company had a policy. He can't replace it until the third issue under the same tenant and that if it was up to him he would replace it immediately because it was old and beaten up and worked intermittently, but his hands were tied. You can imagine my surprise. I mean I paid $2,600 a month for a 2 bedroom. That's a lot for Costa Mesa, but I took his hint and complained each time it broke and sure enough on the third time they replaced it. Then came our washing machine. One day our washing machine just over flowed it flooded the floor below us. Of course maintenance came and had to give us a speech bout not overloading the washing machine. Gee thanks never used one before. They marked that visit down as our fault. Two weeks later it happens again. But this time we had a small load in the machine so how could it be us? So they tested some stuff and sure enough a switch inside it had gone bad. Wasn't our fault the first time either. So they repair it and sure enough two weeks later it stops working completely. So the tech comes out and sure enough the machine is 9!!!!!!!! years old. 9! Luxury apartments? 9 year old washing machine? and when it breaks you rig it back together? COME ON. So this time we went without a washing machine for 4 days no big deal according to management. I think the point is if an apology solves your problems live here. If you like over paying for fancy amenities and horrible management live here. If you like to be treated like a number live here. Otherwise find somewhere else to live. Irvine Company would be a good bet I had no issues with them and Camden apartments are good as well, but don't use this complex.
