A RECENT COMPLAINT FILED AT HTTP://WWW.FINNIANWAY.COM (we do not publish tenant names due to confidentiality policies) Here's what the tenant wrote: After thinking a long while on this building becoming a designated smoking building of the whole complex, I'm getting more and more angry about it. When I moved in to my unit in 2007, this was a non-smoking unit. I need and want to have it staying that way. I have asthma, diabetes and spinal stinosis. I can't be around second-hand smoke. I cannot move or do I have the means to move. I also know a lot more people who have health problems that cannot be around second-hand smoke. I would like them to make one of the other buildings the designated smoking building. I feel as if I'm being treated like a second-rate adult. This is supposed to be my last home for me. I want to feel comfortable and stress-free. I have also noticed many young people coming and going. We were told that no young people were supposed to be living here. Well there are. We are being lied to on so many points of interest, it's not funny. We have no more activities. No more club house or nice patio area. The owner wants this to be and institution, like a bank. No frills. He said what was going on here was not his culture. May I remind him we are in The United States. A free country. Where does he get off telling us how to live!I I can go on and on. I'm sure some other tenants will hit upon other situations. Those are my main complaints. Get rid of FPI management. Get management in here who know what they are supposed to do. Like treating us like adults and not second-class citizens. Were you told storage would be free when you were taken on a rental tour? Who told you this? Yes. Management Things You Do not Like about Living At Dublin Ranch - Noisy environment - Boring existence, with no age appropriate activities. - Can't believe I have to pay $1.75 for a soft drink in the laundry room. This should be no more than 75 cents. - Do not like the frequent notices that people will be entering my apartment for things other than emergencies, and I resent that no specific time is given. Most of the time very few apartments are actually entered. - Do not like people holding religious congregations and meetings in public areas such as the clubhouse. People should not be able to move in who have young adults living with them. THINGS PROMISED TO ME TO INDUCE ME TO SIGN A LEASE: Many promises and representtions were made to induce me to sign a lease, and some were outright lies. - That storage would be free, and cages would be constructed so that each storage unit would be secure...as opposed to the current floor plan where anyone can walk into the storage area and steal another tenant's items. - That in a short time parking paces would be assigned to each tenant but this never occured. - That rent increases would be tied to social security increases or decreases, so that it social security increased by 2%, my rent would increase by a like or lower amount, and if SS decreased or did not increase there would be no rent increase. - Was told that this facility was for active adults, but a majority of tenants are very inactive or disabled. Some have assisted care. - That the building was very secure with locked gates and 24 hour TV monitoring. The TV moniorintg never works, and very often garage doors are left open, subjecting us to theft or mugging. It frightens me. - Was told at move in that there was a medical clinic and stores being established on the street level. This was a total lie as were most things that were told to me when I took the guided tour. - Was told only small dogs were allowed up to 25 lbs, but there are a lot of larger dogs that people are falsely claiming are guide dogs. - Was told that the building was only for people 55 and over, and more and more I see a lot of younger people living here including many teens. I have made many friends while I have been here. I have made my unit into my home. I feel very comfortab in it. I'm scared that is all going to be taken away from me by this being turned into a smoking building. If I had a choice as to which staff members should be fired, I would say all but Marie. SUGGESTIONS YOU HAVE AS TO HOW TO MAKE OUR SENIOR COMPLEX A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE? NEW MANAGEMENT COMPANY!! Put all smokers in the farthest building east of this one. Beef up the security. Get rid of "families" living here. Designated parking. More handicap parking. WE THANK ALL TENANTS WHO HAVE DISLAYED THE COURAGE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES FREELY ABOUT THEIR COMPLAINTS AND TENANT RIGHTS. There are many more complaints like the ones above, and we invite propective new tenants to write to us at ps@finnianway.com before signing a lease, and we will be happy to have a current tenant answer your questions.
