Resident 2006 - 2009

5/21/2011

Overall I like our apartment because we were not facing the south so it stayed cool. I know another person that faced the south and got all the sun, and were also on the top floor, and it gets sooo hot in their apartment. So if you can get an apartment that faces north/north west.. I would have to say the landscape guy creeped me out, he would always stare and he would just not even blink, he was the guy with the big sombrero hat, it really was creepy... Some other negatives was that there was some weird beetles at night with a really hard shell, small but in the apartment I believe during the summer. Also the trees around there are nice, but they hold the biggest baddest spiders. You have to make sure you don't run into a web at night with a spider as big or bigger than a quarter. I don't know if they were brown recluses but they deff were the big light brown creepy spiders. Another thing I really didn't like is the lack of anything their. The pool is really old and small, I mean I swam in it and it was fine and nice but it was kinda gross and in a very awkward place with no privacy. Also b/c of no window in the bathroom we would have to scrub off tons of mold and maybe even black mold off of the ceiling, and all around the tub area. Also the windows are really old and could be replaced so that maybe if there is a drunk neighbor who is screaming at his stupid girlfriend all night, or the guy's car alarm that goes off right near your window around 1-2 times a week from 1-5am in the morning, maybe the windows would help keep the noise out. But no, I had to plug my ears it was so loud, no background noise from the neighbors, purely noise. But most of the times besides having to go the manager about these people, we had good sleep. Those are all the negatives. Now the positives. I really liked how the YMCA was really close and near, walking distance. There is a spa and huge pool there, plus exercising, classes, camps and pre-school for kids... Also it was close to shopping, cvs, and albertsons(when i lived there) were down there, plus kinkos and del taco. You could walk there in around 5 mins. A little bit far from the beach, I wouldn't say that is "walking distance" unless you were that desperate to go to the beach. Also El Camino Real is really far away. I tried walking there from essex heights to barnes n nobles just 2 see how long it would take. It took awhile, plus if you stay on the right side of the side walk it will eventually run out of sidewalk and could probably get you run over by a car since the road becomes a long hill where cars are zooming probably 2 feet away from you. So then you have to cross(going up the hill on Encinitas blvd) to go on the left side of the street, which is really dangerous. Better to take a bus(which was convenient but costs around 4$). Okay sry that was a - and . The managers I had no problem with. Some people didn't like them but they were always nice to me. I'd always forget my keys and the lady with blonde hair, and the asian lady(sry forgot your names) would always let me borrow the key to get in, since they knew I lived there and would come to borrow the key often. The neighbors were pretty much anti-social. Unless you know them, which I didn't. Some of them are complete jerks as I mentioned before b/c of the drunk guy and his gf fighting and the guy with the middle of the night car alarm, but that eventually stopped. Also the people above us were chinese, and they had a baby which would cry sometimes. I didn't really notice it but a lot of the times were would here a loud thumping and we figured that was them pounding some meet on a cutting board or cutting something. Then after awhile we didn't here the baby, pretty sure they were just sitting it for awhile... Also the water was nice, stayed hot. The kitchen was older but decent, hey I guess its 1 of the cheaper areas to live. Popcorn ceiling of course. It was pretty spacious. And it smelled really nice after a rain. We never got broken into which was good, or had any dings on our cars, but I know my cousin got her car run into and had a huge smush in the back of her car, never found out who did that either. Yeah okay place, the negatives are memorable, but overall it was peaceful, and an ok place to live, not the most posh but spacious and nice.
