Resident 2009

10/9/2009

We lived in Sunset Pointe for 2 years from 2007 to 2009. Overall, the housing complex stinked due to the strong and disagreeable odor coming from a nearby construction site and the surrounding residential area that were very loud almost every day and night, not to mention the neighbors in the apartment complex itself, which was unavoidable. Our rent was not bad for a 2 bed/2 bath, which was the only thing I could see that was not bad, though it was true you only got what you paid for: Now and then there would be incidents pertaining to the parking lot, wherein a gangster-related individual would randomly slash the tires of the vehicles parked in the apartment's parking lot, which is not very well-lit at night, even though the issue had been brought up to the management office during resident meetings. Parking spots were assigned to the renters, though unavoidably at times guests of other renters or motorists not living in Sunset Pointe would park in your assigned parking spot for hours or even overnight. The tow service and the rental office management could be responsive to these issues once you brought it up to them four times or more. Prior to moving out of our apartment, we asked the rental office to inspect our apartment more than three times after we sent a 30-day notice, but nobody came. I talked to the manager to check the apartment during her free time instead and was told by her that the carpet will just need a cleaning and so I gave her a sum of money which was fair enough based on an estimate by her from her carpet cleaners, and was also told the overall condition of the apartment required repair on a few items that we were not responsible for since they were like that when we first moved in. From the manager's mouth, I was informed that all was well, no big deal. With my security deposit plus carpet cleaning payment, I thought the apartment still owed me a few dollars, but to my shock and dismay I owed them over six hundred dollars! There was no carpet cleaning done. Instead, there would be a carpet replacement, which was the most expensive part of the charges, plus house cleaning and cleaning supplies charges, vertical blind cleaning, and range hood filter charges. Minus my security deposit, I still owed them over six hundred dollars. I shouldn't have done any cleaning to the apartment but I wasn't like that. The apartment was old and the toilets unsanitary: they needed continual repair since they were not properly installed by maintenance people. The owners of pets seemed to have been allowed to leave their pet's excrement anywhere outside their apartment without picking them up, which added up to the bad odor of the apartment complex. Moreover, why should I get charged for a carpet replacement?? Based on the Tenant's Law of California, I shouldn't get charged for such carpet charges due to the carpet's aging and normal wear and tear. Sunset Pointe was unsatisfactory, unreliable, and greedy, in my honest opinion. One gets stabbed in the back soon after he leaves and receives a note of charges without a proper inspection from the office. I highly do NOT recommend this apartment to anyone.
