Before I moved in, I read all of the comments posted here and took some practical advice to heart. My move in check list was so long that I had to use additional sheets of paper to list the tiniest details about my apartment, including holes in the walls, dirty smudges, etc. If I had a camera, I would have thought to take pictures but I didn't. I asked the management for a copy of my checklist and they graciously provided me with it. Also, I've found it most effective to actually step into the leasing office to ask for any maintenance work that needs to be done. Phone calls are pretty useless, you have to speak directly with someone. And I made sure to get good renter's insurance.

Some of the downsides include thin walls and ceilings/floors, which means that if your upstairs neighbor walks with a heavy thud, your walls will shake. And I have very loud upstairs neighbors that stomp on the floor...highly annoying at 1 a.m. when you're trying to sleep. Also, because they divide the water bill by the number of units and not by the actual amount you use, I do think it's unfair that I have to pay more than my share, since I live alone and some apartments have 5 or 6 people living in them and they pay the same amount as I do. Also, most landlords pay water and garbage for you, but here, you're charged for all your utilities, which isn't a whole lot but still it sucks.

On the plus side, the convenience of the gym is nice, the floor plan is spacious and much bigger than other apartments that I looked at, I have terrific neighbors, and it's a very convenient location - minutes away from Fremont Park, BART, grocery stores, drug stores, and a big shopping center.

I'd say that all in all, if you're willing to put up with some of the negatives, living here might just be worth it.
