Resident 2009

2/5/2009

Lived here for about 6 months. When looking for an apartment with my roommate, we needed one that was below $1400/mo and Sycamore Village offered up a 2 bed/2 bath for $1375.00 This was by far the cheapest we found when shopping around. Upon our visit, it didn't see so bad, but you really need to live there to begin to understand why it's so "cheap." Pros: - It's cheaper than most in SoCal near a university. - Conveniently near CSUF. - Conveniently near the 57 FWY. - Commercial shopping is walking distance away. - Reserved parking. - Some cute girls. - Noise isn't too bad. - Stove/oven, dishwater included. - They pay for water/waste. Cons: - Insulation is lacking. It's hotter than hell when it's only 80 outside, and freezing during the nights/mornings. - Inconsiderate neighbors. Have some people in the unit across from me that smoke, chit-chat, argue in the middle of the night. Entertaining on weekends, but I have to work on the weekdays! - For the first few weeks/months, people kept parking in MY reserved parking spots. - Crickettes. They're all over at night and managed to squeeze through cracks in my closet from the outside? I leave for a few days and get 1 crickette in my room for every day I've been gone. Girlfriend hates it, lucky roommate doesn't have to deal with it (shut up Marc). - Paint sucks. They must repaint the place every time a lease is up, so there has to be at least 12 coats of paint on any surface. This means doors must be forced shut/open. This causes the entire room/windows to rattle. You can hear when a neighbor opens/closes their doors. - Windows suck! When the winds roll it, they will rattle all night and keep you up. Had to stuff tissue paper into the joints/cracks to seal it shut. Walking around the place and you'll see others have done the same. - Landscaping, or lack thereof. Most of the time, it's just dirt, weeds, and tree stubs. Then it rains, so you get more weeds. It wouldn't hurt to plant some grass seeds management! Makes the Tribeca Apts next door look like the Garden of Eden.
