Resident 2002 - 2012

10/3/2012

I have lived at Hollyview for almost 10 years now, simply because I love the location, the management is almost always good and very responsive, and most of all the apartment is FAR LARGER than anything else I have seen, especially compared to new construction. I live in one of the apartments facing the courtyard, with a giant picture window which makes the place really light and airy. believe the apartment to be about 650 sq. ft. I have enough room for a grand piano, an office, a dining room area with buffet and china cabinet, a large eat-in kitchen, LARGE Bathroom with separate tub and shower, and a bedroom that is about 12x10 instead of the postage-size br's in other buildings. Also there are virtually no young kids here. Newly redone 1st floor units have hardwood floors - I have carpet, which I prefer. Once inside the courtyard, I almost never hear any noise from Hollywood Blvd or Orange Dr. traffic. It is a little oasis, the courtyard is very nicely landscaped, and the pool is large and inviting and sparkling, and all are maintained weekly. The management is VERY aggressive about pest control- I love that. Parking is mostly in back behind electric gates and very safe. Guests are limited to 8 per unit so no large parties happen, keeping it quiet as well. Great walking distance to the Red Line train, Hollywood and Highland with Restaurants and Starbucks and Hollywood Bowl free shuttles are right across the street, and the characters and international travelers on the boulevard make me smile. Grocery store, great food and CVS are less than 1 block away - no traffic or parking fees - and I do not even have to cross a single street to walk to LA Fitness. It is GREAT urban/city-ish living, with activity, people and police around until 2 am. The downsides are - the building is old, so there are frequent water shut-off's for plumbing repairs; the electricity amperage is low at 40A per apartment so my circuit breaker trips sometimes; the tour buses create a lot of Diesel dust that is a constant challenge if you like open windows (forget about it); noise is great if your unit faces Orange; the pool is not heated except in summer; the patio/pool furniture needs replacing, the pool is not heated so it goes to waste several months or the year; traffic can be a hassle during premieres and DEFINITELY during the Oscars (but I like being in the thick of things and hearing all the languages around me) and sometimes there are people in the side parking area that make noise at night going to their cars but that is brief. And guest parking can be a hassle. They have to either park at Hollywood and Highland or you need to buy a guest permit.
