Resident 2001 - 2002

3/26/2002

I´ve never seen an apartment turnover like the one I witnessed at Mill Creek Apts. So many people moved in and out you would literally lose track of neighbors. My WHOLE building moved out... over 12 apartments total and those are just the ones I know about. I´ve lived in apartments mostly all my life and so I know what to look for and what to appreciate. I´m not expecting the Marriott, but I do expect for $2,100 a month in rent that the staff treat me fairly and the apartment be of a good quality.

I found the office staff to be lacking on simple basic requests. I requested a rent decrease and was able to drag my rent down from $2,100 to $1,625 for a two bedroom two bath apartment. This helped us quite a bit. However, if something broke in the apartment, it took them a long while before they could send someone around to fix it.

Cars were continually vandalized with or without an alarm. You would walk out and see windows of many vehicles... many as three at a time busted out. My neighbor JUST moved in and got his car broken into, his wife´s things stolen out of the backseat. As I watched some of the security cars drive by, it was obvious they were a poorly funded security service. In fact, he only would drive by - rarely get out and walk the premises. I never saw them walk the property.. except to lock the pool. Also, the cars and small trucks they would use... were making a lot of noise, looked like they might fall apart at any second. Don´t hope for the security service to approach a situation with any form of stealth.

Next door to me, a fully functional Geisha house operated by Asian women 24 by 7, men were knocking at all hours of the night. My wife and I would see strange cars, strange men, and even a couple times naked Geisha girls greeting them at the door. They moved out before too long though - around six months.

Maintenance was decent... it would have been helpful if they spoke English. Hot tub was always broken and didn´t work properly.

Parking is absolute hell and accidents were so common, I kept a camera in my car for those people who requested that I take pictures for insurance purposes. This came in handy more than once.

The smell from the landfill was awful, especially on hot summer days.

They won´t admit it, but the apartment complex works on a boiler system so you could stay in the shower for days with hot water. I will miss this feature.

Watch out for cancelation of your lease agreement. If you cancel your lease before your lease expires, they have the right to not only keep your deposit, but they may request an ADDITIONAL one months rent on top of your last months rent. So be very very careful about this... as we almost got nailed on it... but we sneaked away without getting hammered with it. I guess they make exceptions.

Watch out for bogus eviction letters on your door telling you that you still owe them money when you really don´t.

If you like high rent, unsuitable understaffed management, ------ parking, vandals hiding in the bushes, and prostitution rings, ... Mill Creek is the place for you.
