Resident 2012 - 2014

LaCrosse Village Review The place looks nice, but after living here for almost 2 years, there are some major flaws in the place. 1) They would only allow me to sign a 6 month lease to begin with and of course they raised the rent when I went to renew. 2) The place is old, things are falling apart e.g. my screen door on my sliding glass door constantly falls off and when I reported it to maintenance, I was told it was fine, "they just do that". 3) The appliances are the absolute cheapest they can get, the stove is a glass top electric range, and despite how carefully it's used, it scratches terribly. I'm on my second refrigerator because the power "browns out" at least once a week and wrecks things plugged in. I had to put battery back ups with power regulators on all my electronics after blowing out several items. I have been through 3 routers, 1 TV, 1 computer monitor and 1 aquarium pump. The had an electrician come out and check the power and it did seem to fix the brow out issues. 4) They try and nickel and dime you for anything and everything. There was a $45 fee to pick up and charge our fire extinguisher if they had to come to the apartment and get it. I received the notice 4 hours before they wanted it and I was of course at work at the time. 5) I have gotten complaints because my garage door opens to loudly (not sure how this is my fault or problem, but I got the complaint none the less. I also received a complaint because there was water on the pad outside my apartment door because I watered my plants. It was actually less water than the automatic sprinkler system sprays out and evaporated in less than an hour. 6) The apartment manager is very passive aggressive and not helpful and blames everything on the tenant. In all of her correspondence to me, she has been aggressive and down right rude. My rent had always been paid and the only complaints we received are outlined above.  7) When we moved in, we were told that the previous tenant had a terrible mildew problem in the master bathroom. Apparently all they did was paint over it because now the mildew is pushing the paint off the walls and is running rampant again. The fans in the bathrooms are loud and not effective at all. The bathrooms stay humid all the time even with the fans on and a additional fan sitting in the doorway blowing in more air. I contacted the city and they said they were well aware of the issues with the complex and I could request that they come out and do an airflow test of the bathroom to see if the fan was high powered enough. I was already planning on moving at this point and didnâ??t want to mess with the entire process for fear of retribution from the landlord. Our temporary solution to dry out the bathroom was to place a box fan in the doorway and leave it running. This did help, but my electric bill sky rocketed. When the apartment manager saw the fan in the doorway, she said â??Oh thatâ??s a really good solutionâ?? of course it is for them, no expense to them or need to do a repair. This has effectively rendered the master bathroom unusable and so now we are now only able to use one bathroom and we are still paying for a 2 bedroom 2 bath unit. 8) They charge you $75 out of your deposit to clean the carpets after you leave regardless of the carpets condition. I've NEVER had this in any other apartment I've rented. They also say they do a urine test on the carpet and if it shows positive you pay to have the carpet replaced. (never had a pet, so it's not an issue, just thought it was a bizarre addendum to add to the lease.) Now that I have given then my 30 notice that Iâ??m moving. They sent along paperwork stating that I canâ??t turn off my water for 7 days AFTER I move out so they can use MY utilities to clean the apartment, if I did turn off the utilities there would be a $35 fee deducted from my deposit. I contacted an attorney on this matter, and I was told itâ??s a grey area, and should not be my responsibility, but that I would need to take the landlord to small claims court to recover the fee. This is just another example of the shady and barely legal policies they use to get more and more money with nothing in return. I called the company that manages the property and left several messages for a call back and have never heard from them. 9) The blinds that they use are so cheap, that even normal wear and tear makes them fall apart, and of course they charge you for new ones. 10) The cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms are very old and warped, so none of the close properly. 11) The dishwasher is very old and barely works, and everything that has been run through the garbage disposal ends up on the clean dishes, it's disgusting. I had this in my list of complaints about the apartment that needed to be fixed and instead of replacing the dishwasher with the new model they put in the rest of the units, I was given a photo copied page on how to load a dishwasher (So passive aggressive and another way to avoid making actual improvements.) 12) The BBQ grills by the pool are disgusting, every time we went to try and use them they were full of moss and rust. 13) I have lived in places run by city designated slum lords and have gotten better service and treatment from them. I would avoid renting from this place at all cost. There are much nicer places for less money and with a staff that is actually helpful in the area. This has been the most terrible rental experience Iâ??ve EVER had!
