Resident 1998 - 2000

12/19/2007

You called for a review, but I lived there several years ago, so I've no idea how much improved they might be, if at all. Cramped kitchen, outmoded and worn fixtures, threadbare and dirty carpeting (in apartment and hallways), tiny rooms, no storage, crappy laundry machines (until replaced, with prices doubled), a truly scary closet-sized elevator that smelled like old carnival rides (electricity and hydraulic fluids), rather scary superintendents... possibly the worst place I've ever lived. I had a 2nd floor studio, cramped and worn-out, but all I could afford at the time. Every evening was a sound show of the older couple next door having their daily screechfest, in some foreign language, accompanied by banging of pots and pans, slamming of cabinet doors, breaking glass... basically everything short of automatic gunfire. This would go on for an hour or more until someone (I or another neighbor) would pound on the paper-thin walls/ceiling/floors/door demanding that they shut the hell up. Not sure if they ever understood the request or just got the hint because someone else was pounding things louder than they could. I had 10-20 neighbors living in the apartments downstairs under mine who cooked out every night right under my balcony (my only window) so that the smoke would choke me out. Neighbor around the corner on Del Medio drove a big diesel tow truck, often had to go out on runs in the middle of the night, almost always out again at 530 am, so with the spiffy soundproofing (see above), that's what time I woke up every day, weekends included. Other neighbor noise was your average loud TVs and stereos. Couple of good things: Shopping is close by - Safeway is just a short walk up the street - as is some decent food - I discovered BuenoBueno Burritoria (mmmm) on El Camino when I lived here. Caltrain is a short walk. Relatively easy to get to 101 or 280. I had sufficient and easy parking in a covered space. I didn't have any issue with bugs or other vermin, except occasionally ants. All in all, the area was nice enough, but this apartment building was just a complete and utter dog. I can't imagine how they could have improved much aside from tearing the place down and rebuilding. If you can afford anything else, go with anything else. Good luck!
