My daughter and I have spent the last several years making our home at Arroyo Villa in Newbury Park. We've been happy with the facilities, the landscaping, the management, etc., and the location's perfect for my work, BUT... I only recently found out that this complex (and presumably the other properties owned by the same company) do NOT screen for sex offenders. This situation is intolerable and regrettably we will be leaving when the lease is up in the very near future. Please do not take my word for it; I will not post the details here but simply check the CA state Meagan's Law website here and enter the address for the complex (1600 Rancho Conejo Blvd, 91320):
Arroyo Villa doesn't allow dogs (not an issue for us as we don't own one), but either intentionally or by oversight they allow pedophiles? I was stunned. This is a safety issue for us pure and simple; we cannot live in such close proximity to a registered sex offender. I didn't check the Meagan's Law site before I moved into Arroyo Villa, but I will check it regularly from now on and I advise everyone (not just parents) to do the same. As satisfied as we've been overall with our experience at Arroyo Villa, I cannot recommend it or the other communities owned by its parent company (Shapell Property Management); it speaks to either a lack of due diligence or integrity in the leasing process and a disregard for the safety of its residents that is unacceptable.
I am truly sorry to have to report this, but our childrens' safety is too important.
