Resident 2009 - 2010

8/20/2010

Be informed before you make a decision.

I don't hate living at Renaissance. There are a lot of great features. - Appearance: The apartment itself is beautiful; everyone who's ever come over has said that we have a nice apartment. There are a lot of windows (we have a 1-bedroom unit, and there are 7 windows in it!), and so there's a lot of natural light. The place definitely feels new -- it's obvious that these were built within the couple of years. To me, it felt like we were the first people to ever live here. - Appliances: They're all high quality, and there's a well-functioning washer/dryer in the unit (a total must have for me!) - Storage: We have the Raphael model, and have a ton of kitchen cabinets and a large pantry. There's also a ton of counter space. The kitchen here is the largest that I've ever seen in an apartment. It's fantastic. There's also a large linen closet in the bathroom, and an additional storage closet outside on the balcony. Since our unit comes with a garage, we can also use part of that space for additional storage. - Bugs: I've NEVER had a problem with bugs of any kind: roaches, ants, spiders, and the like do NOT live here at Renaissance! In our year of living here, I've seen about 4 total ants, and that's it. - Noise: I have NEVER heard my neighbors speaking, yelling, watching movies, etc. It's totally awesome. Every once in a while, I'll faintly hear the upstairs neighbor vacuuming, but I've never even heard them walking! However, although all of these things are great, there are some very serious problems that you should know about before choosing to live here. - PARKING: What a joke. Do not listen to the office staff who claims that there is "no parking problem." Speak with ANY resident and ask them about parking, but be prepared for a long speech about the problems that they experience. Unless you have a two bedroom apartment (which will get you two assigned spots), don't have a car, or never arrive home after 4pm, you will NOT be able to find parking. However, if like us, you have two people in a one bedroom apartment, one of them will HAVE to park in a guest spot. This is another way of saying that one person will have to park across the street at Denny's or the motel. It's so incredibly frustrating and terribly inconvenient to have to park that far away, particularly when you have groceries or heavy bags to carry. And if you have guests... good luck with that! If you are thinking about living here, PLEASE seriously consider your need to have adequate parking, because you will not find it here at Renaissance. - Incompetency in the front office: The staff is not unkind, but they are often oblivious. Aside from having my car towed while I was on my honeymoon, the staff rarely seems to know what is going on. When they changed the parking rules and handed out permits, we were given the wrong color tags and told that if we used them and parked in guest parking, our cars would be towed. So I removed the tag, and was told that I could park in guest parking without a permit (after all, it's GUEST parking and only residents get permits). Then, twice in the last two weeks, I got a citation for not displaying my permit! Damned if you do, damned if you don't, I guess. - Speed bumps: One of the worst things about living here are the speed bumps. Sure, it seems like it's a minor complaint, but if you had to drive over these things, day after day, you'd understand. It's similar to driving over a curb -- the alignment on my husband's car has been damaged, and it hurts my neck and back to have such a jolt each time I come or go. I'm honestly surprised that they haven't had lawsuits from residents whose cars have been damaged. - Dogs: Don't get me wrong: I like dogs. However, this complex is FILLED with them and their irresponsible owners. People let their dogs urinate and defecate ALL over the place -- even on the sidewalks, and they don't pick it up. I've avoided going through the center of the complex, because it reeks of dog waste -- I've literally gagged from the smell. I've also NEVER walked on the grass, and I beg you not to do so! It's utterly and completely disgusting, and I'm shocked that management allows it to continue. All in all, the apartment itself is far beyond my expectations, but the problems, most especially with parking, have far outweighed my appreciation of the living space.
