Resident 2013 - 2014

7/13/2014

AVOID THESE APARTMENTS! I moved back to these apartments because last time I had a great experience renting from them, this time was different. I have never had a bed bug problem before I moved here, I do not stay in hotels, buy used furniture or use public transit. My apartment got bed bugs and I did the right thing and reported it to the manager Chris. He told me I would be responsible for the cost ( I NEVER signed their bed bug addendum!) and had I known about it I would have moved after my intital 6 month lease expired. My lease was 6 months long and had nothing in it about bed bugs, i was under the impression that this had renewed on a month to month basis since they accepted my rent, After I reported the bugs they told me their was a NEW lease that I was suppose to sign when my other lease expired(I didn't know about this lease or sign it) the new lease included a bed bug addendum in it! WHY WOULD THEY ADD THIS AND HAVE PEOPLE RE-SIGN? Long story short they charged me for the cost of the exterminator it was $500 and they took it from my security deposit after I refused to pay for it up front ( I couldn't afford rent, cleaning, exterminator and plastic boxes etc.), they would not give me a clear answer on whether or not anyone else had bugs or why the addendum was added. The entire experience was very expensive and stressful. I spent close to $500 in cleaning fees at the laundry mat( they banned me from the onsite laundry, very embarrassing) and plastic containers. In addition I had to throw away almost everything I owned: my couch, bed, mattress & box spring, vacuum, carpet cleaner, tv stand, area rug, dressers and more for fear of bringing the bugs with me to my new apartment. I also paid for Uhaul, dump fees and paid rent for a month that I didn't stay there. I LOST SLEEP, MY FURNITURE, DIGNITY, MONEY AND HOME. They sprayed ONLY my apartment, did not give me options(even though I was the one ultimately footing the bill) and didn't not tent or heat treat anything, which from what I have read is necessary to prevent them from spreading to other apartments. I have no money left to pursue legal action against them. CA code does require a landlord to keep a place free of vermin and pest but, they care more about $$$ than their tenants! I also believe the manager Chris was trying to cover this up.
