Resident 2005 - 2008

8/6/2008

I've lived here in CST for three years now, and I have no regrets whatsoever. Obviously, it's not perfect, but show me an apartment complex that is. Here are all the positives: - Huge apartments. I couldn't find anything else in the area that even came close to the size of CST's apartments (referring to 1BR, but I would assume the same holds true for others). I'm pretty sure I have close to 900 sqare feet. - Attractive styling. The top floor apartments have a vaulted ceiling with black support beams - it's hard to describe, but it's a very unique look (see for yourself). Everybody who walks into my apartment comments about how nice it is. - Incredible view. My apartment has a fantastic view (facing the park). I can even see the Bay from my back deck. - Reasonable office staff. I only really see them when I have to pickup a package, but they're always pleasant and easy to deal with. - Extras. There are three swimming pools, a workout room with showers, an in-ground hot tub, pool tables, etc. The gym has modern equipment - free weights, one of those industrial-strength 10-in-1 machines, treadmills, stair climbers, an exercise bike, cross-country machine, etc. Body builders will probably still need a regular gym membership, but it's great for the other 99.9% of us. Those are just the things that stand out in my mind. Here are the negatives: - Parking. There aren't many visitor parking spaces, and you have to go to the office to get a visitor space assigned. At first, this may seem like an unnecessary hassle, but they've tried doing it other ways, and it just didn't work out. - Thin walls. The walls between apartments are somewhat thin, so you can sometimes hear your neighbors. This seems to be the #1 complaint that other reviewers have about CST, but there's a really simple solution: buy a HEPA air purifier, or any other source of "white noise", for each room. The faint sound of the fan provides enough white noise to keep you from hearing your neighbors. You don't even know it's there after a day or so - it's really a magic bullet. - No air conditioning or central heating. This is one of those things that only really bothers me one or two days out of the year, when it gets to be over 100 degrees F outside. It's never bothered me enough to buy one of those portable A/C units (which can be vented out through a sliding glass door), but I do have a space heater. Even on hot days, opening the front window/door and the back sliding glass door creates a strong-enough breeze to be very comfortable. Just based on the comments made in other reviews - if you're thinking about living here, and have plans to use a satellite dish, make sure you only move into an apartment that has a back deck facing the southern sky! Bring a compass with you, if need be. If you're not sure if you're going to get one, go check out San Bruno Cable before you sign a lease, and make a decision. They have the fastest and all-around best Internet service I've ever used (1.2 megaBYTE/s downloads), but their HDTV offering is only average - you can't order things like MLB Extra Innings, and the (monopolistic) DirecTV-exclusive NFL Sunday Ticket. Overall, I would recommend CST to anyone looking for an apartment in this general area. I'm a little bit dumbfounded at how so many other reviewers could hate this place - it's like they're living in a different apartment complex or something.
