Resident 2010

7/24/2011

I moved in mid 2010 to a building located about the middle of the complex. I'm on the ground floor and only share one side wall and the ceiling. It's a one bedroom and a little bigger that I would've expected for the money, $1050/mo. I have a nice little porch/entry area at my front door where I can relax and look at the trees and sky. Otherwise not much of a view, but much better than the backside of another building. It has a small storage room attached to the porch which I love. The bedroom closet is walk in and larger than any other place I've lived. The kitchen is good sized with good storage. The bathroom is 1/2 open, meaning the sink/counter area is not behind a door, but the toilet/tub is. The toilet/tub room is very small, but it's fine for me. It takes a while for hot water to reach me, the cabinets are cheap and outdated, and the toilet clogs just about every day. Parking is great for me (but not everyone else), I have a spot right in front of my door. But 95% of the other residents are not nearly as lucky. Tenant next door has to park about 100yards away, and most everyone else has the same problem. Most parking spaces are a bit small, some unrealistically small! There a few, dam few visitor spaces, and they're all taken 24/7 by residents who have a roomie etc. The best your guest can hope for is a 1/4th mile hike to the street and usually around the block because everyone else parks on the street too. It's fairly quiet indoors, I rarely hear my neighbor thru the wall, and only hear foot steps above now and them. In that respect I'd say it's quiet, but others say the walls are thin. The main problems are outside. One guy who parks in front of my building thinks everyone shares his taste in rap music and wants to hear how it sounds at full volume shaking my windows. That happens about 4 times a day. And sometimes he parks and just sits there letting it blare. The neighbors in the complex next to me which is only 100 feet away think yelling is how you speak English. They're either drug dealers, or there's ten people living in that unit. It's very busy there, they use old sheets as curtains etc, you know the type... Every hour or so you can hear someone hocking a big loogie and spitting it out the window. Weekends you can expect yelling, loud music, people in the pk lot talking very loudly, etc. A month ago around 12am someone was yelling at that unit from the pk lot: "I'll kill you, I'll f-ing kill you, over and over for 20min." I'm lucky regarding laundry and trash as they are both very close to me, but not for most people. The laundry is always locked due to theft. The pool seems ok, but I've never used it. The gym is teeny tiny, basically like a large home gym. No free weights. Landscape is semi sparse, but well maintained. The managers/office staff are very nice and pleasant to deal with.
