I lived in the apartments for over a year, including a 1, 2, and 3 bedroom unit. In the first two moves the carpet in the apartment was cleaned and the rest left in immaculant condition but I was still charged what I believed were significant and inappropriate amounts for "cleaning and repairs". Of course I was not made aware of these until I was already committed to an additional lease term.

After finally moving out I was hit with charges that exceeded my deposit, most of which were entirely unreasonable. I immediately let them know that I disputed the charges. Within days I was contacted by a collection agency demanding the balance of what they claimed I owed them. They have been fairly unresponsive to the my requests that they substantiate their claims (it has been nearly 10 months since I moved out and they still have not provided substantiation). They have also filed their collection claim with credit agencies and now this appears on my credit report (which hitherto was spotless).

I was tempted to drop the whole matter and let them keep my money (I now live in southern California) but now I will have to sue to get my credit file cleaned up.

If you have a similar experience or other information that might help please let me know. There is strength in numbers.
