Citrus/Archstone: Attack of the Killer Washing Machine

When I first moved into this complex, I was thinking I´d love it here. I had been searching for an apartment to stay for quite sometime, and I think what drew me to this place was the flat $30 hook up fee for cable (meaning no monthly bills). The highspeed internet was also a definite plus. I didn´t have a car, so the location couldn´t be better (the promenade is one street down and the big blue bus takes you almost anywhere you need to go).

When I arrived I found the dishwasher was terribly rusty. There was also an unidenitified object sitting in the bottom of it. If you´re not prepared the washing machine will also scare the crap out of you. On top ruining your clothes, this dandy little machine will also make sudden loud noises. There is an alternative; a laundry room. Washes are 75 cents and drying will cost you about 50 cents. The only problem is you´ll find they´re in use by other tenants most of the time.

Like others have stated, noise is definitly an issue. It´s almost the equivelant to living in a dorm room. You can hear everyone and everything. The only difference is that a dorm room isn´t so pricey.

The lighting is also terrible. There´s about one good light fixture in the entire place, and it´s above the sink. You´ll definitly need to bring your own lights into this place.

The swimming pool is OK. It´s only 3 feet deep, but like it has been stated before, almost no one´s ever there.

The staff, in my experience, has actually been pretty helpful. I wanted a new showerhead installed and they gave me no problem about it. It was installed within 24 hours. They´ve been nothing but friendly with me.

Honestly, if this place wasn´t so pricey I wouldn´t complain. I suppose the reason the insulations so bad is because of the fact that it´s an old building (dating back to the 1920´s, I believe). Unless you´re a heavy sleeper, I reccomend tucking away your money and just paying the cable bills at another apartment. The extra money you shell out just isn´t worth it to have this "luxury" apartment.
