Not worth the price

I've lived here less than a month and I can already point out about 15 things worse about this place compared to my last place. Let's get started with the pro's first. Pros: 1. Close to BART. Very cool for city excursions or airport flyaways. 2. Trader Joe's and Costo within walking distance. Convenient and easy. 3. New. Place doesn't feel overly scummy (yet) because it's fairly new. Cons: 1. Parking is ridiculous. Last place I lived in we were in a 1 bedroom. We were both given garage openers and we had one assigned space along with dozens of unassigned spaces that anyone could use to park their second car. Parking our second car was never problematic. In Archstone you *must* rent a second space. Unfortunately all the second spaces are full and there is a waiting list, but if you take a stroll to the top floor it is regularly close to empty and I've never ever seen it more than 1/3 full. What are all those spaces being used for? Here is a tip: Assign 1 space per unit and for the remainder, leave them unassigned. Everyone gets to park their second cars behind the fence, safely, there is no more guest parking issues and everyone is happy. FIX IT!! 2. Construction in nearly every aspect is very shoddy. This place was obviously a victim of the 'lowest bidder' contractor and it's painfully obvious. Common hallway doors feel cheap and the mechanisms are starting to stick, general signs of less-than-quality manufacturing nearly everywhere. I am scared to see what this place will look like in 5-10 years. Shoddy construction leads to..... 3. Neighbor noise! My last apartment was on the bottom floor. We had top floor neighbors and heard one or two very small noises that simply reminded us they were there, occasionally. We have folks above us in our current Archstone place, too, yet you can hear LITERALLY EVERY STEP THEY TAKE. I'm nearly positive it is a full family, too, with 2 adults and 2 children. You can hear their TV, their video games, their conversations, everything. This is not their problem for being noisy it's the construction of the complex that is faulty and cheap. They simply did not care enough to put even basic levels of sound dampening in the floors and ceilings. Truly terrible. 4. Internet/TV. You can get ATT U-VERSE or you can get a satellite dish. There is no Comcast/Cable TV. I love Comcast and I hate the fact that I'm stuck with AT&T. The HD quality isn't as sharp as Comcast and I generally just hate AT&T as a company. Our old place had network panels in each wall that let you easily activate them so you could plug in computers in any room. This place doesn't quite work like that and the AT&T guy did me a special favor by making the line to one of the rooms active. Otherwise you are stuck with wireless only. 5. Weird heat issues. South San Francisco is a chilly and overcast place most of the time. For some reason our apartment stays oppressively hot most of the time. We have to keep the windows open constantly just to keep the temperature DOWN. I don't know where the heat is coming from but it's really problematic. We haven't touched the heater once since we moved in and it's South San Francisco in September! I love walking outside because it's very cooling and relaxing compared to the heat inside. I don't know what the problem is. Conclusion: The place is 'okay' at its best. But there are some serious issues that simply make it not worth the price. I luckily came in at a good price because of the slacking economy, but I have a feeling that renewal of the lease next year will be more expensive and I'm not sure I'll be staying.
