Resident 2022 - 2023

Think twice before signing

TLDR: Think twice before signing your lease. Customer service is bad, and they will hike your rent the max possible on renewal. There are better options down the street with similar pricing and better amenities. The day we moved in we were greeted by a giant gaping hole in the hallway ceiling and debris on the ground where the ceiling had collapsed due to water leakage. This collapse had also damaged the fiberoptic internet cable so installation was impossible. And there was further water damage in our kitchen near a broken dishwasher. To make matters worse there were no leasing agents or community reps available to troubleshoot and we were told that's because it's a smart home and reps weren't needed. When the internet person arrived they looked to us for direction, and the only South City contact we were able to get in touch with (via email) told us we were responsible to resolve the issue ourselves. The internet person ended up running a new fiberoptic line along the wall in order to get it set up so we could work from home. But our trust in the admin staff was already damaged. Our time at south city was further marred by the unclean and unhygenic courtyards filled with dog poo, garbage rooms packed to the ceiling with bags because the disposal chutes were bent and unusable, and water leakages pouring into our bathroom from sub-par contractors renovating the upstairs apartments. Not to mention the false fire alarms nearly twice a month that literally traumatized our dog so much he started wetting himself whenever it went off - and he now is suffering from hearing loss. Any resident will agree the fire alarms need to be taken care of. In fact the fire marshall would agree. He spoke to us directly mentioning the tens of thousands of dollars in fines South City has paid over the years for failing to take care of this issue. So much so that no one evacuates when there is an alarm - and if there were a real fire people would die because they don't believe its real. All of this - and then management decides to hike our rent by the maximum 9% or whatever in addition to telling us we'd have to vacate our apartment for 2 weeks so they can renovate (no thank you), or move to a different unit. We decided to leave since we'd have to pay for a moving truck anyway and there are better deals for the same price at their competitors down the street. South City charges too much for what they offer in return and the management is only available through a series of voicemail phone tag or if you march into the office in person. Simply put, don't live here if you have other options.
