Resident 1994 - 2002

12/3/2002

I lived at Community Systems twice, for 4 yrs, and then moved back and lived there another 3 years.

Sometime during the last 3 years there was a management turnover. The new management immediately started increasing rent 10% every six months. They increased rent to the point tenants started protesting, families with kids where evicted left and right, moral within the complex sank, and petty arguments seem to erupt between my neighbors and management continually. Eventually, they priced themselves out of the market with a high number of vacancies.

The mobile home had very poor insulation and heater system, which required me to set up electric heaters in front and back rooms. It still became cold and drafty though. If I had children it would not be acceptable.

Still, I stayed because I enjoyed playing and feeding the cats in the complex. They became like children to me, and I cared for them well. They were not my cats, but cats abandon because so many families moved out.

Then, the manager’s daughter moved in next to my unit, and complained that I was feeding cats in my driveway dry cat food. This family also complained that my girlfriend came and went to my unit every day, all though she lived across town. So, the manager Lee, a very unfriendly sort of woman, issued a demand that I remove my cat dry cat food and have my girl friend sign up as living there. The manager Lee said the dry cat food would attract rats. I pointed out that the cats where eating any rats, and it served no purpose to trap these cats and take them to the pound. Lee insisted that she would begin enforcing a new rule requiring all pets, including cats, be kept indoors or on a leash.

For several years I enjoyed helping stray cats, finding homes for them, playing with them in the complex. I knew the neighbors well who lived near me and they saw no harm in a few cats that lived near by. In fact, they helped by trimming the branches of the tree next to me so the cats could climb the tree next to our home.

I feel the main problem was this manager named Lee, who is the sort of woman who is very controlling. Polite at first, once you have moved her attitude changes. There where only a few situations that required me to speak with her during the time I lived there, and each time she seemed to be more and more combative, speaking down to you, as she has power over because you live in her complex. I soon learned to avoid her after a short while.

So, I moved out, and had professional service clean my apartment. There was no damage to the place. Then manager Lee decided to keep about half my deposit to replace the blinds, which aged during the time I lived there. Mind you, I don’t have time to fight these matters in small claims court.

In summation, if you move there you can expect to lose a large portion of your deposit, and disagreements with a very unfriendly minded manager.
