The manager is very nice and keeps the place tidy between the days the gardener comes. The neighbors are quiet. The apartment is very pet friendly, though there are not facilities like the Cherry Orchard Apartments nearby (which has a dog park). There are no facilities like the other luxury rentals (club room, fitness center pool etc), although the small size (30 units) is a bit less anonymous. There is a painting fee unless you stay 2 years. I don't find the noise from Cal train 1/2 block away too bad. There is a pleasant courtyard, but you almost never see anyone out there as there aren't many stay at home moms. There are some nice roses and flowers. The squirrels are very entertaining and occasional birds visit the courtyard. The floorplan is weird entering through the kitchen where the island takes up most of the kitchen space which blends into a very small living room and the pathway between the bedrooms runs where the dining table should go. The only luxury item is granite tile counters. The appliances are all small. You can't get salad plates into the top rack of the dishwasher. The faucet isn't adjustable and is so low in the sink you have to keep the dishes down in the sink to rinse. The closet wire clothes racks are so inexpensive you can't slide your clothes back and forth. The heat consists of a heat pump (running your air conditioner backwards) and is very loud, and the heat is very uneven, some rooms boil others freeze. There is only one assigned parking space per unit. The bathrooms need to be kept aired or mold appears around the windows. The parking spaces are very small (and I own a medium size car) and getting in and out of the spaces is a pain. There are barely enough unassigned spaces for the second cars, but I usually only have trouble finding a space when I come home very late. There is no visitor parking, and there is no street parking in front, you have to park around the corner. There is a 7 eleven and a Starbucks within walking distance. There is an elementary school about a block away. The main reason I chose this apartment is that it is the only one-level I could find in a pet friendly apartment and I really enjoy not having to go up and down stairs all the time (I have a first floor unit). Overall it was not a bad choice, but it is a sad state of affairs in this area how much you have to pay for so little comfort.
