Resident 2006 - 2007

4/16/2007

I put up with this place for a few months, but I'm more livid every day and would rather pay them off the next couple months just so I can get out. The people in the office are nice enough, but in my opinion quite incompetent. We get random letters that are either outdated or completely incorrect. Incorrect names and apartment numbers are always causing confusion. They sent us a letter explaining we were having apartment inspections, and to expect a date for when we would have someone come to our apartment. No such letter came, so subsequently they just showed up knocking on my bedroom door while I was sleeping asking to look around. The parking is absolutely horrible; Often times I would rather not go anywhere all day in order to avoid a 20-30 minute drive around looking for a spot. As such, there is NO guest parking. Not just a few spots, no guest parking whatsoever. Friends and relatives have to park 1/4 of a mile away down a street where there is a housing tract and walk back. There are only a few washing machines and at least one is usually out of order. This doesn't take into account the inconsiderate neighbors that use 4 or 5 machines at the same time, making others wait. On the bright side, it's relatively cheap laundry compared to other complexes. Lighting on the Cordova parking side is occasionally out (at least 3 or 4 times a month), leaving the entire parking lot completely dark. Though I've never personally had a break in or other similar problem, there is minimal security at night. To the best of my knowledge, it is just one security guy who wonders around late, but his priorities seem to be aimed at calling the tow truck for cars with no permit. If you do move here, get a unit with A/C and stay out of the other rooms. Our row of apartments is very hot and they neglected to inform us just how hot it gets here. My room is between 90-100 each and every afternoon in the summer. When we moved in, it never got below 85 all night, shades and window open or closed. Television and internet all come from one company called 'Consolidated Services', which is an oxymoron in itself as it makes it even more complicated for tenants. It also forces you to pay for your television service separately, and your cable boxes separately. It's DirecTV only, cable is no option. So you must pay for a phone line in order to get the internet.

The rent is on the cheap side for Orange County, and the maintenance crew is pretty good and have been on top of problems, but there can't be many places with worse parking than ours. I highly suggest looking around at different places before settling on Cordova or Castillian.
