It’s not worth it

Apartment is nice but it’s impossible to live here when the a/c stops working all the time. After working all day to pay a steep rent I just want to come home to a livable place, not constantly submit tickets for someone to come momentarily fix things.

    I lived in these apartments for two years. The location is amazing- walking distance to pretty much everything and quite spacious. Now the cons. The rent is high. Like outrageously high. Went up 150 after the first year even though we were living in a unit that hadn't been updated in many many years. Over 2000 for a ONE bedroom apartment is just insane. Our unit had a loft which seemed awesome since we were just starting a family, but beware because that space is absolutely unusable 8/12 months of the year due to pointless windows and improper ventilation. The temp during the day rarely got below 85 in the summer which made for insane power bills because the cold air Just escaped up there and the apartment as a whole would frequently hover around 85 as well. Additionally, there were frequently "dumpster divers" in the area. Even in broad daylight. And the area is very loud. Ambulances, police sirens and trains at all hours of the day.       I have been wanting to post a review about my experience in Northglen but wanted to wait until the day I didn't live here anymore. Why? Because I didn't want everyone to know that this is the best place on earth to live. I wanted to keep it a secret. Because I was afraid it might attract too many people and my rent would go up even higher. (Smile). There are no words to describe Christine Bender, the property manager. She is extremely professional, yet kind and accommodating. Ever since I lost my house in Castaic, due to the financial crisis that exploded in 2008, I have had to move about 6 times. I have never met or encountered anyone like Christine Bender. She runs this place with the highest quality and standards that make you forget about how expensive rents are these days and how ugly the world is around us. I come home from a very stressful day (and stressful life) and I feel so at peace because the property is so well-kept by the staff and the neighbors are wonderful.         Alan Armani is a total waste of space! He is the worst GM I have ever encountered. When we moved in the carpet was "new" In the middle of 2014 I noticed the carpet started tearing in numerous places. I emailed Alan to let him know. Guess what his remedy was...having the carpet cleaning company come and "repair the multiple tears" in the carpet. Unfortunately the tear was all the way across the room and they couldn't repair it so the carpet company had to come out and replace one half of the carpet in the living room. Alan keeps telling us that the carpet is supposed to last for 5 years...he knows this carpet would only last for 2-3 years at most. Equity Residential is even worse. They basically take up for their managers instead of really investigating what is going on. I had the health department come out because not only is the carpet still tearing but there are exposed nails everywhere. My kids and I have stepped on numerous nails and have been cut.           I've been waiting to write a review and it's time now. I've lived here for a little more than 2 years and will be leaving when my lease is up. Not only because the rents are way too high for the area and services, but because I do not feel safe here anymore. Just last week, my bicycle was stolen during the day (and yes, it was cabled and locked). Today, I chased a guy on a bicycle out of the complex because I caught him looking into first-floor windows and under stairs. There have been numerous break-ins during the day - both apartments and cars parked in the lot. A very simple solution would be to gate the complex, but THAT will never happen because all of this criminal activity is ignored by the leasing office here - not even acknowledged to warn residents or anything. Northglen is all about Da Money now - they don't care about their residents. Apparently the village is finally enforcing the code violations here because they are replacing rotted out stair railings - honestly, it shouldn't take a code violation notice to maintain a property.             Terrible, Terrible, Terrible!!! Since moving in here we have had nothing but issues. You get a small apartment unit, and no garage. The appliances in the units are old and outdated....but the office swears they are luxury quality. The washing machine has ripped clothing, and other fabrics. The dishwasher barely washes the dishes. Over 90% of my electrical outlets are loose and don't hold plugs. The ceiling fan was loose and wobbling when we first moved in. On top of that the price of rent goes up unreasonably every year! You move in initially because you are getting a rate that you agree too, then they force you to terms on the new rates or force you to move out. There is no customer appreciation here on any level. Oh and you are forced to have renters insurance. I understand the purpose behind renters insurance, but if a tenant chooses not to have renters insurance it should be up to them to decide if they want it or not.               Are you thinking of renting here? Are you getting a good price because there are a few units vacant? Be WARNED. Next year, your rent will go up to market rate . My rent on a 2 bedroom, 1660 base rent went up nearly $200.00 PER MONTH after the first year. Equity does not care what your base rate is so asking 12% rent increase is absolutely fair for them. Over time, you will be paying the top market rate for your unit because they set the renewal at current market value. They gave me a "break" to a $150 rent increase. Unimaginable. These units are not $1800 units. Single glazed windows leak sound and temperature. The cabinets and counters are old and damaged, bathrooms nothing special. There is no play area for kids, so they play around your cars. Ungated is convenient, but there are some people wandering around at night that give me pause. Keep looking, you can do better. On the plus side, the staff is good, but they can't offset the realities of cost and facilities.

                My husband and I sold our home of 14 years to down size and simplify our lives. We researched and looked at lots of apartment complexes in Santa Clarita, Canyon Country, Valencia, Stevenson Ranch and everything in between. The saying goes save the best for last. Well unknowingly we did. As soon as we entered North Glen we found the beautiful trees and well maintained grounds very charming. We met with ---- and he was pleasant, professional, and listened to our needs. He showed us two apartments and we fell in love. We have been here about a month and we feel we have found home sweet home and so does our beloved dog Molly.

                  I love my apartment. I read some of the other reviews and wondered if I lived in the same place? I don't have any bugs (and I hope this remains!), I've never had parking issues, etc. I have had one work order and it was taken care of the next day. I really like that I can pay my rent online, that I can put in a work order online, and that they send emails with information instead of leaving annoying notes on my door like my last apartment complex. The office staff is BEYOND nice and helpful. I am VERY happy!!! Yes- my apartment is a bit cold... but I am also under constant shade- which I will love come the summer! :) And the apartment is huge.

                    I moved in a few months ago and wow, some of these reviews are really familiar. Same issues! Bugs, Parking. I've not really had appliance issues and my neighbors aren't too bad except for their entry steps and front door are up against the wall of one of my bedrooms and the banging is loud when they come in. There is noise from parkign lot sometimes and the windows aren't very good. They don't seal out cold / drafts and noise. For the bugs the other review mentioned, it's the reason I came looking for reviews. I wondered if I was the only one having trouble. I have crickets, ants, spiders (black and brown widows too, on the deck), waterbugs all come in. It's true, the complex does little bug treatment generally outside so the bugs come in under the doors and along pipes. My neighbors seem to have the same issues. There are a lot of big trucks and really lousy parkers that take up more than a space so I've had dings on my new car. The derelict thing was an issue but I think it got sorted out.                       Thanks for your feedback. It is important to us to hear what our residents are thinking so that we can make positive changes for everyone in our community. Each apartment here at Northglen includes one reserved parking space located in the same building as the apartment. The community offers additional parking spaces at no extra cost via guest parking spaces and carports around the community. Each additional parking space is provided on a first come, first-served basis. Addtionally, we offer pest control service every Wednesday by appointment only with Orkin. To schedule a time, please call the office. Orkin routinely sprays the exterior of the community at selective designated stations. Noise complaints are addressed sufficiently in a timely fashion when reported to the leasing office. We investigate each noise complaint to see if the complaint is warranted, and then will execute an action plan if necessary. I appreciate you bringing forth your concerns and sharing your experience.                       Good: there is a lot of parking. The office staff seems to care but doesn't seem on top of issues, very reactionary, BAD: There are so many derelict cars taking up prime spots it's a good thing there is parking but you have to walk to it. Noise from Neighboring apartments is a problem Kids shouting in parking lot late at night and poorly communicated courtesy patrol info. They don't tell you how to contact the security patrol. BUGS: Grasshoppers, Ants, Spiders (including widows), Silverfish, Earwigs. I saw the Orkin guy and asked him why we have so many bugs. They don't spray around the buildings unless there's a problem so there's no preventative spraying. This means bugs are everywhere. You can't sit on your deck at night without getting invaded by ants, grasshoppers and those huge outdoor roaches. GROSS. Lots of bugs in the unit, can't get rid of them. Old appliances: Some original and lots of push back if you want new ones.                         We love our new apartment! We have been with the Equity family for several years, but we are new to Northglen Apartments. It's beautiful, quiet, close to many major stores and, most importantly, it's affordable for the area. We also love our leasing consultant --------. She was extremely friendly, helpful and professional. We recommend this property to anyone looking for an upgrade to their current area!

                          This is the second time I have lived in North Glen apartments in over 20 years. They have kept the place up very well since I left in 1995. I waited 15 months to get the floorplan I love and I feel like I am finally home. Next to owning my own place, this is the best! I'll give up property taxes, insurance, maintenance costs, and HOA dues any day to live here. Very worth the money, but I hope they stay reasonable so I can stay forever. I already know my neighbors and the staff here is very friendly and great to work with. They are very speedy and professional with their maintenance and don't quibble over fixing things that need it. North Glen is the best apartment complex in Santa Clarita! I know because I checked all of them out over the past year while I waited for the floorplan and location that I wanted. I am now HOME!

                            Best Community in Santa Clarita

                            This is my 6th year in Santa Clarita and I have stayed all these years in equity apartments and Northglen easily the best in the area. This is my 3rd year in Northglen and i am really happy with our stay here. Really friendly and approachable office staff and maintenance staff and none of our calls got unattended. Very family oriented place and very safe and i have recommended this place for many of my friends and those who moved here are all happy. There is ample guest parking and this is the only community where you will get the covered guest parking.

                              I have lived in Northglen going on 5 years and I love it here. The staff and maintinence crew are friendly and quick to respond to problems. The grounds are nice as well as the neighbors. Its location is great and its a pleasure to live here. Hope to stay for a long time. It has all the ammenities that I want. I would recommend this place to anyone.

                                I lived there with a roomate for about a year, it was a nice apt but a lot of things were falling apart, there was a idiot always parking next to me with a f500000000 that was beyond big and i couldnt even get out of my own car without hitting theres, the grounds are okay kept they are always replacing the plants cause their gardners cant do a thing worth while, they are always changing the staff because they cant handle a apartment complex....its a okay to live but do a short term lease so you dont have to worry about any of the bugs

                                    Best Place I have ever lived

                                    I have lived in many apartments in the Santa Clarita Valley over the years and this place is far above the rest. The leasing office staff is very professional and always does their best to make the residents happy. I can not speak highly enough of the Maintenance staff, they always do a great job and clean up after them selves. For example we had a flood in our apartment and they were able to have everything fixed, new carpet installed and cleaned with in 24 hours. We never have a difficult time finding parking. The rent is a little bit higher then other places, but you get what you pay for. I am so happy we chose to live here and don't plan on moving anytime soon.

                                      Great place to live.

                                      This complex is wonderful. It's tucked away in the center of Valencia, right in between Saugus and Newhall so you're central to almost everything. Traffic noise isn't bad, the staff is very polite, and the pool and gym are great perks. There is no assigned parking but there were always plenty of spaces very near my apartmnet. The apartments are very spacious, in fact, they have the biggest square footage I have seen in Santa Clarita. The rent is expensive, but compared to the valley, they offer moderate prices. The walls are very thick here too. I hardly ever heard my neighbors and I've had parties that were pretty loud and my neighbors couldn't hear me. Northglen really is a great place to live.
