Health and Safety Issues-Stay away!

I am never one to complain but if I could give zero stars I absolutely would. Terrible management and maintenance staff. Below is a portion of a letter written to the Venture Property management just yesterday regarding the terrible encounter we have had with Woddglen. If you are looking for dirt cheap rent for an average place, you should probably go elsewhere since the rent here is ridiculous for the quality and the service of the management personnel. My roommate and I are in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom unit on the first floor, and began renting at your property in August of 2010. In this short time, 3 leaks have occurred in our apartment, in the same place. The first leak occurred around this time last year in the corner of my roommates bedroom. The maintenance personnel came and cut a hole in the ceiling and simply placed rubber around the leak with a clamp and left the hole in the ceiling for a couple days with a blower under the corner of the carpet to dry. A couple days later they finally patched the hole in the ceiling and a smell was left from the wet carpet, to which we had to leave windows open to ventilate the room because of the terrible smell. Several months later, again, another leak occurred, in the same spot. This time the maintenance personnel claimed it was our water heater that leaked into her room. This time, they pulled the same corner of carpet up, placed a blower underneath and again, it took a few days to finally dry. This again left a terrible smell(this time worse) that took a few days longer to get rid of with windows open. The third time, and dare I say the final time we will be putting up with this mess, occurred this last Saturday, December 17th. Yet again, a leak occurred in the SAME spot of the room, however this time maintenance claims it is the upstairs apartment water heater that caused the leak. When maintenance came to the apartment, they again simply pulled back the carpeting and placed a blower to run to dry the carpet. On Monday, Dec 19, the carpect was still squishy it was soo wet and after feeling the carpet I went to the office to complain that the leak was still occurring. The maintenance guy explained he had clamped the pipe himself and he was going to "send his guy to check it out." 20 minutes later the other shorter maintenance guy came in. He lifted the carpet and started cutting away the carpet padding. I waited in the living room and he brought out a handful of soaked carpet padding (across my clean living room carpet) and said, "Oh, this is the problem, he was supposed to remove this when he first fixed the pipe, now it should dry" and left. The carpet finally feels like it is starting to dry, however, the wall is still clearly soaked(see attached photo) and the room has been unlivable do to the smell of ammonia like stench from the moldy smelling carpet. For the past two nights my roommate has had to sleep in the living room floor because it is unhealthy to breath disgusting fumes from moldy watered carpet and walls. After a couple different times of complaining to the manager(name removed cuz she is worried about her credibility) and the maintenance team, still no concern seems to be raised at the idea that the living condition of that room is unsanitary. My roommate has severe allergies and after 3 leaks in her room I am starting to understand why. After three times, the carpet, carpet padding and the wall paneling has not been changed! This is ridiculous! I am positive that after 3 leaks over the past year that there is mold growing behind the wall, in the carpet padding, and the carpet itself and nobody seems interested in even testing to ensure everything is safe! After 2 times of yelling at (name removed again) the manager, she came with me to the room to see that the wall was clearly still wet and the smell was disgusting. Her only reaction out of all concerns we have raised was to say "we have to be patient and allow everything to dry." Allowing the wall to dry and painting it does not ensure there is no mold growth behind the wall!!! I am furious at the idiocy of (name of manager removed) and the lack to care to do something. After showing anger and clearly showing how tired I was of the run-around nonsense, she finally said she would contact upper management and see what they could do and call me back today. This email is to ensure someone else besides (name of manager removed again) hears our concerns. After three times, we are tired of paying our electricity to run the blower to dry leaks on their property. After 4 days my roommate should NOT be required to live in our living room because her bedroom she pays rent for is unlivable and unhealthy! Please, don't even consider living here, it is clear health is not important. Byt the way, Nina finally talked to management above her, and yes for our inconvenience and our higher energy bill costs they are going to give us $25 coupons off of rent (1 each month for the next 3 months)...too bad we are getting the hell out ASAP...this place is a joke. For almost $1500 in rent we are going elsewhere.
