Resident 2010 - 2017

5/10/2017

I have recently left the Canyons. As you can see by past reviews, it was an excellent place to live. Now, it is not! I've included a letter I've sent to management regarding my experience at the Canyons. I would not recommend this complex with the current management company. May 9, 2017 Canyons Apartments at Saddle Rock To whom it may concern: Until May 3, 2017, I was a resident at the Canyons at Saddle Rock since October 2010. I have renewed my lease every year. Each year the date that the lease ended has changed. I thought that my most recent lease ended May 30, 2017. The office staff sent me a notice of renewal on March 13, 2017. At that time I was applying for a mortgage for a condo. Before I spoke with the office I wanted to be certain that my application was approved and that I had a set closing date. I was approved for my mortgage and had a closing date of April 28, 2017. When I checked my lease and I realized that it actually ended April 30, 2017. On March 27 2017 I went to the office. I explained to the person there that I had made a mistake about my lease. I asked about the month-to-month options. I informed the office personnel that I was planning to be out of my apartment well before May 30, 2017. I asked if I could have my rent pro-rated based on when I actually moved out. I was told that could be done. The office staff listed my move-out date as May 30, 2017 with several ?? next to the notation. Thinking that issue was resolved I attended to my closing and prepared to move. On Thursday, April 27, 2017, I went in to the office to inform the staff (Jackie) that I would be out of my apartment by May 3, 2017. I asked for a pro-rated amount to be calculated based on that date. Jackie went and spoke with Stephanie. She came back and told me that Stephanie would send me the amount by email before COB Thursday. I closed on Friday, April 28, 2017. I had not received an email from Stephanie. When I had everything out of my apartment on May 3, 2017, I went to the office with my keys and garage door openers and asked for my bill. A different person was at the desk. He didn't have the information. He went to see Stephanie. The manager Amy came out and told me I owed rent for the whole month of May. I explained what had transpired. She said she didn't know anything about that and I owed the whole amount. I am a teacher. I could not pay for the whole month. The move was expensive and I had planned for a pro-rated bill. Amy refused to work with me and insisted I pay the whole amount. I gave her the keys and openers and told her I could not pay it. I am very disappointed in how this was handled. It was clearly a mistake that I readily acknowledged. As a resident for 6 ½ years, I was surprised to be treated so badly. The current management company is the 3rd managing company since I've moved in. They have been very difficult to work with. They have not been attentive to the needs of the residents. Staff have been alienated and have left. ON moving day, I had 2 inches of ice on the sidewalk outside my apartment. There wasn't any one clearing the snow and ice until 4PM. The prior management companies kept a supply of ice melt at the base of the stairs. This was no longer the case. I will gladly pay my utilities and 3 days of rent for May . I look forward to having this situation resolved without any more problems.
