Resident 2010

What can you tolerate...

I've been with High Line since March 2010 and I have to say it is one of the worst complexes I have been in. As a military/government worker I need to be close to my duty station for a variety of reasons. That and the cheap rent was what lured me to this place. I have served in a multitude of countries, in hostile locations, at various duty stations so my tolerance of "unique" living situations is very high. My wife on the other hand has a problem with the area. 1) Insects: I run a tight ship, I'm not a neat freak by any means but I know how to keep vermin away and nothing you do here will stop the local spider population from sharing your quarters. I have fogged my apartment twice with double the dose and and still they run from place to place in my apartment. Hobo spiders, house spiders, crab spiders, and a variety of others are EVERYWHERE. Beetles are also a issue to. When it rains expect beetles and worms to try to make their way in your first floor apartment. 2)Parking: There is a large amount of uncovered parking. However, the lines aren't straight at all, leaving tenants to park in all sorts of weird obstructing ways. There are also terrible blind spots all around the parking lots because of garbage dumpsters. The way the are designed creates a blind turn around many different corners so you must becareful for the speed demons who drive 30 MPH through children filled parking lots. 3)Furnishings: Like the rest of the reviews say the appliances are old, very old. My refridgerator generates an amazing amount of heat. When used in tandem with my oven produce a tiny sauna in my kitchen. The heating works well enough as does the air conditioning. Since the appliances are dated you will use a considerable amount of electricity. Also I had never lived in an area where the water was a shared expense between the tenants in a building. It's a little aggravating to know that regardless of how well you conserve and limit your use the overall bill is what matters most. There are no light fixtures in ANY of the rooms aside from the front room, kitchen, and restroom. 4) Safety: I've never had any incidents occur up to this point. However after working law enforcement as long as I have I do pay attention to what happens around the block. The complex is busy with police activity from various domestic violence and narcotic incidents. It's not especially dangerous but it's not some place I let my guard down. -Overall its down to what you can tolerate more than anything. If you're looking for a cheaper residence off of a main road that's near a highway this is the place for you. Be warned it's not the best place to live, noisy neighbors can be an issue, and view obstructed turns are a norm.
