Resident 2018

12/31/2018

Please read for an honest account from the apartment from hell: Pros: . Relatively cheap rent for Colorado (~$1000 for a one bedroom I split with a roommate) . Elizabeth in the leasing office was always friendly and helpful - from when I met her in March, and during my 6-month lease (June 2018 - December 2018) . Bruce & the maintenance guy (never got his name) that lived on our building were always a delight . The pools were almost always vacant - it was nice to have this space in the summer . They do allow dogs - I don't have a dog, but I loved seeing all the pups in my building . Good distance from downtown Denver & the airport Deal-Breaker Cons: . BED BUGS - you always hear about this problem in apartment complexes, but never think it will happen to you. My roommate & I first noticed bug bites around August - after a couple weeks of this, we informed management of the problem for the first time. We were told it may be dust mites. After a couple weeks more of this, we complained a second time, and were told it must be spider bites from the vents. After another couple weeks, we demanded that we get treatment for bed bugs, as the bites continued. For another month or so, they periodically had a spray treatment done in our apartment (any reliable online source can tell you this isn't effective for bed bugs). Finally, in November (3.5 MONTHS LATER) we had a heat treatment done by Affordable Bed Bug Treatment that finally took care of the problem in our unit (luckily we were moving out the next week & didn't have to worry about them coming back). Granted, management did pay for this treatment - but only after months of complaining & pushing and without any sort of reimbursement for the time they knowingly let us live with bed bugs. We had to throw out HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS - EACH - worth of mattresses, furniture, & clothes. The clothes we didn't throw out had to be washed thoroughly, outside the complex, which cost a fortune. Turnberry management delayed solving this problem for months & did not inform other residents - Because there is shared laundry, building 29 will always have bed bugs unless they heat treat the entire building. . RUDE STAFF - The people in the leasing office here (with the exception of Elizabeth) were the rudest group of people I have ever met. Jeff was very nice in person, but the written letters left on our doors always had aggressive language - all caps, blaming residents - not the worst thing in the world, but definitely not how you talk to your residents. Marilee (sorry if I spelled this wrong) made no attempt to even pretend to be nice in person. After we started complaining about the bed bugs, she was passive-aggressive and condescending when we so much as came in to pick up a package or pay rent. The apartments they provide are not nearly nice enough for them to be as pretentious as they are and expect to real in new tenants. Other Cons: . Water is shut off more times in my 6-month period than seems normal (I know this is necessary for some maintenance) . Usually smells like pot inside the unit, the smell drifts throughout the building since all vents are connected (I don't particularly mind this, but some readers might) . Outside the unit (hallways & elevators) usually smell very musty - I think this is just because there is no air flow in the hallways I can't explain the relief I have finally being out of this place. I sincerely hope Turnberry management improves the way they treat their residents and takes care of their buildings.
