Resident 2008 - 2009

2/28/2009

I chose Bear Creek Apartments for housing my sophomore year (note that I currently still live in Bear Creek and will until May) because it looked nice, new and and I was already used to taking the Buff Bus from living in Williams Village. When it comes down to it, convenience is truly the only thing Bear Creek has to offer. I live in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath and pay a ridiculous amount to share a small kitchen and living area with 3 other people. The apartments don't have a pantry, linen or utility closet. Basically, if you want to store something you get the option of your small closet or the space under your bed. The apartments come furnished, but never in my life have I seen lower quality furniture. I think the coffee table is actually made out of plywood. There is industrial style carpeting throughout the entire apartment as well, it feels just like a dorm! And the appliances are awful! It's impossible to even run the dishwasher and watch tv at the same time. As far as the parking goes, the cheapest lot ($35/month) is located behind the buildings and it's so far away. It's not the distance that is unacceptable, but the fact that the only sidewalk running between the parking lot and Bear Creek does not offer ANY lighting is obscene! The particular location of my apartment is atrocious, and unless you have a unit on the far side of the building you're stuck listening to the traffic on 36 all night. Not only do you get highway noise, but the walls might as well be made of paper. I can actually smell cigarette smoke in my room on occasion from smokers outside before of the poor insulation of the windows! More so then the horrible quality of the apartments and the unreasonable prices, the office at Bear Creek could more successfully be run by children. The students that work in the office have clearly never been trained to handle situations, let alone do they even possess the simplest customer service skills. Even when it comes to the adult professionals in the office, I have never seen worse service. It takes weeks to accomplish anything and they constantly blow off any concerns and questions like it isn't their problem at all. Bear Creek isn't run like an apartment building should be at all. Documents are consistently lost, misplaced and misread and you can tell it's out of true laziness! The worst part is that Bear Creek continues to raise their rates on a yearly basis! I can't stress enough how awful it has been living here. I highly recommend just looking a little further into Boulder's housing market and you'll find there are so many greater things out there for 1/2 the money and you won't be dealing with morons on a daily basis!
