Resident 2011 - 2013

8/20/2013

I moved to this apartment from out of state and only had the website and reviews to go by. I really regret not doing more research. The staff that I dealt with is not the staff currently running things. For the most part, they were friendly and helpful, but I learned not to believe everything I was told. What I liked about this place was the location, price, and schools. It's close to everything but traffic can be a pain. I liked that my boys could walk to the elementary and middle school which are better than average. The neighborhood is nice and seems pretty safe. That's the good. Now the bad: First of all, if you have a family with young children, I would really advise that you look elsewhere. This complex is NOT family friendly. If you are young, single with lots of roommates, smoke, and like to party then you might like this place. As another reviewer mentioned, there is a problem with teenagers loitering and being loud and profane at all hours. There have been several cases of cars being broken into or vandalized. The entryways are littered with trash and cigarette butts and you usually have guys smoking in the doorway. The lawn areas in front of the building are covered with dog crap, butts, and broken glass. I could not let my kids play on the grass and the playground is a joke. I learned quickly that this complex was more pet friendly than kid friendly. It has a small pet deposit fee so there are many people with dogs. Don t get me wrong, I love dogs and they were much quieter than most of the residents but I don t like having to constantly look where I step. Since the change of management last year, this place got worse. I think they meant well, they just seemed incompetent sometimes. You used to be able to call the office but now it just goes straight to voicemail. I never really had an issue with maintenance like some people did. Our maintenance guy was pretty prompt and helpful. One of my biggest gripes about this place was how much I paid for utilities. My water bill was ridiculous and I had no control over it because it goes by how much the entire complex uses. I paid between $200 and $250 a month for utilities (gas, water, sewer and trash), and that did not count electricity, which is paid separate. Just the water portion of the bill was between $100 and $150 a month! When I inquired why so much I was told that that was normal and they don t set the rates. I am now living in a three bedroom house and my water bill is never more than $50! I am so glad that we found a house and were able to get out of this place. It s a shame that there is not a better selection of rentals in this area. I wish I would have checked out the complex across the street (Beverly Place). It couldn t have been any worse.
