Resident 2013 - 2014

4/6/2014

No different than any other large apartment community. I moved into this place with a very good attitude, but that changed on the day I signed my lease agreement. First of all, the manager lady quoted me one rental rate and even wrote it on the apartment brochure on the units that I was interested in - the brochure has the floor plans and a place to write in the rental amount - she wrote one rate down on that and when I came in to sign for the lease, SHE CHANGED THE RATE TO A HIGHER RATE! I couldn't just move either because I'd already made all the arrangements to move in to this place! Then right after I signed the lease, she was already talking about raising my rent every lease renewal, like it was something I could expect. Within a couple months of living there, I met up with another tenant in the parking garage who was in the process of moving out. I asked her what she was paying and she was paying a lot more than I was for the same sized type apartment and had her rent raised so much within the short time she was there that she told me she was forced to move out and in with a room mate elsewhere which she would not have done if the manager had just kept her rent the same. The manager has a thing for raising the rents every time you renew your lease. She claims one thing about wanting to keep rents low and tenants in but all the while she raises rents and forces them out. She seems to be working with a medical school so she can take advantage of med students and their student loans they're living off - there are a lot of med students here and far too many to make sense since the school is on the other side of town. The place wasn't very clean either when I moved in and still smelled like cigarette smoke, especially after running the shower. It's not as quiet as I've read either. This may have been a nice place years ago but the manager is two faced and a liar and will raise your rent because she knows that so what, you can easily be replaced by another med student on the waiting list. Unfortunately, she's a vampire of a landlord just like all the rest of them and that's really sad because I really had come into this place with a great attitude. If she wants to keep people in and not force them out, she ought to keep their rents the same and stop raising them, JUST BECAUSE THE MARKET SAYS SO, which is every landlord's usual excuse for raising your rent. We are in a terrible economy and most of us are just barely scraping by. This would be a much better place to live if the landlord would actually keep her word on supposedly keeping tenants in - You can't keep tenants in if you're constantly raising the rent! She keeps tenants in alright, JUST NOT THE SAME ONES, unless they have an unlimited amount of money to keep up with the constant rent raising!
