Resident 2009 - 2014

3/4/2014

I lived at Urban Type for four years, during which the property was sold and switched hands from the old management company to the current manager. I was a little nervous about the switch, but it worked out great. The old management was just fine, but the new manager, Andrew, really exceeded my expectations for the place. He takes great care of the building and is very quick about responding to maintenance requests. He's very fair and easy to talk to about any issues you have. The apartment building itself underwent a renovation in 2009, so everything there is fairly new and has a nice feel to it. The apartments are pretty quiet - I'm not sure if that's just because of who lives there or the construction itself. And the place is far enough from Colfax that you really don't hear much from the street aside from a few faint sirens in the middle of the night (if you leave your windows open). The apartments themselves are small, but there was always enough space for me to set things up comfortably. (I was living there by myself and I'm somewhat of a minimalist, but I still have a decent amount of stuff.) I was on the top floor, and that tends to get pretty hot during the summer, but there's a window air conditioner built in that keeps the place cool. There's a laundry room with storage spaces in it. The laundry room has two washers and dryers, which worked pretty well for the building size. Sometimes you might need to wait an hour or so to do your laundry if it's on a weekend day, but other than that, they're usually available. The common space has a few tables and a grill. It's a nice place to hang out - at one point we had an unofficial Friday happy hour out there. The apartment is located in the Congress Park neighborhood, which is a great place to be. Tattered Cover and Twist & Shout are just around the corner. There's great tacos over at Odelay Tacos (a few blocks down Colfax). Uber Sausage is right around the corner and I've heard great things about it (I'm not a carnivore so I never tried it). The Bluebird is within walking distance. And there's a number of great coffee shops whichever direction you go - Cafe Max, Dazbog, and Starbucks are all within a few blocks. It's a great walking neighborhood, and it's easy to get places via bike too once you cross Colfax and get on 16th. I always found the neighborhood to feel really safe, but then again, I don't really consider Denver to have any unsafe neighborhoods. There's ample parking during the day when everyone's out and about, but the spots on the street fill up around 8 or 9pm. The farthest I ever had to park was a street away. Overall it's a great place - very happy with the time I spend here and I'd definitely recommend it.
