Resident 2009 - 2013

8/13/2013

I'll start with the positive...washer/dryer in the apt were very small but convenient...when I needed something done in the apt, it was done relatively fast. Best of all..The covered parking (clutch!!). Now, on to the annoyances: Initially, my major concern when I moved there was safety bc of the numerous car break-ins. My nerves regarding safety eased only to be met w/ frustration over non-stop noise and a gaggle of filthy and destructive college students. For example, I recall finding vomit on the stairwell on several occasions. The noise outside varied from screaming girls, to guys fighting, to the entry gate malfunctioning and beeping nonstop. The last year living there was relatively quiet in comparison to years past, aside from the on slaught of fire alarms going off all the time. The management office repeatedly claimed to care and (I guess) attempted to handle complaints but there efforts yielded few results. All in all, initially they attempted to place very strict towing regulations which simply resulted in frustrated residents constantly getting their cars towed (bc they parked their car close to their bldg to move things in etc). They also passed out fliers a lot (bc that clearly attacked the problem at its source). When the flyers didn't cut it (shocked), they hired security guards that were actually worthwhile. All in all, I found the management ineffective and cold. The head maintenance guy "martie" was rude and dismissive the few times I bothered to speak to him (like the time a few yrs back when at 2 am the gate alarm had been going off nonstop for over an hour (at 2 am!)...he essentially told me to suck it up b/c he's not coming to look at it at 2 am and doesn't know how to stop the loud beeping...thanks buddy...sorry to wake you!). Anyway, I avoided talking to him over time after his initial unpleasantness. So, why live there for longer than that first year. I HATE moving, I worked 80 hrs a week (resident at yale) and didn't have the time or desire to move all my crap again. Instead, I regretted moving there in the first place and wish I would have spent the time to look around a little more when I initially moved to Ct. When I initially moved in there were several Yale residents and fellows living there, by the time I moved, many of us had moved out (some even had to break their lease). Long story short: If you're college student looking for a dorm atmosphere (that's just a lil more pricy and a lil less fun) then yeah...Move in. You'll love this place! If you're an adult who has a job, a family and/or standards then DONT DO IT! Oh, did I also mention the racist profanity that you may find on your car or in the elevator (true story!). Also, forgot to mention the time some college kids partied a little too hard in one bldg and actively tried to kill some one (i.e. throw him out of a window)...the remnants of their partying were left smeared and splattered all over the elevator (i.e blood)...Nice!. Seriously...THIS PLACE SUCKS!
