Resident 2011 - 2013

5/2/2014

Every review has to be taken with a grain of salt because most people only write reviews if they're at one extreme or the other. Rarely do you see reviews from people in the middle. But that's what this is. I lived in the Elise from August 2011 to December 2013 and it was always a perfectly fine experience. Certainly, there aren't fancy amenities but the apartment was decent sized for a studio. I didn't have many maintenance issues, but the ones I did have were dealt with swiftly. My experiences with the staff were always very pleasant. I did develop a roach problem at one point, but swiftly knocked it out with some roach baits from target (which were legitimately magic). But bugs/roaches are kinda just a thing you get with city living, and they're pretty easily taken care of. The walls were excellent in terms of noise. I only ever heard people from the hallway or the street, never from either side of me (and only very occasionally from above.) The apartment is about a minute walk from the Foggy Bottom metro and about five minutes from Whole Foods and maybe ten from Trader Joes, making it very convenient location wise. It's maybe a twenty minute walk from Dupont and ten from Georgetown. It's also right off campus from GWU so if you're a student there, that's certainly a big draw. That does mean that a lot of students live in the building, but still, I never found noise to be a problem. I always felt perfectly safe in the building and neighborhood, which is also good. The hospital is across the street, which was very convenient should an ER visit be necessary, but there isn't nearly as much noise from that as one might expect. The apartments are absolutely overpriced, but let's be real, what apartments in DC aren't? It wasn't perfect by any means, and if you're really picky or desire a large number of amenities, this probably isn't the place for you. But I found living in The Elise to be an entirely fine experience and would recommend it to others, especially if they had reasons to be in the Foggy Bottom area, such as attending GWU.
