I have lived in this apartment for 7 months and overall have been happy with the experience (especially because I took it sight unseen, which was a bit nerve wracking!) My model is quite large for a studio and has a huge walk-in closet. Staff at the front desk are pleasant and courteous. The only problem I've had (saw a mouse once) was addressed promptly. Other than that one random mouse, which admittedly freaked me out, I have never seen so much as an ant. I can't say I KNOW my neighbors, but I don't think that's unusual or undesirable for city living...whenever I run into people in the hallways, elevators, etc. they are pleasant and normal. And the biggest plus: location, location, location (as long as you don't have a car, because the building does not offer parking and street parking is tough to come by)!! Very close to Dupont Circle in a safe area, and the rent is lower than many buildings in the neighborhood.

With that said, you get what you pay for. There are definitely some significant negatives. The common areas of the building (ie hallways, lobby, laundry room) desperately need a facelift. Elevators are very slow and often out of service. I don't know if it's because the air vents are old or the window screens fit poorly, but I often find a sort of grimy dust on my windowsills and other things near the window. The kitchens only have a mini fridge, which might bother some people (I think it's fine, except that it means the freezer doesn't really work.) My apartment faces an alleyway, which I assumed meant it would be quiet - WRONG. People in the opposite building are noisy sometimes, and the garbage men come at 7 AM every morning and make a racket. And the central air/heat is terrible...ALWAYS too hot. Keeping the window open usually solves that.

My overall feeling: if you are on a budget or would just rather spend your money having a life, Sixteen Hundred is a really great find, but if you're looking for luxury, keep looking.
