Resident 2002

1/13/2003

My husband and I moved to Clearwater March of 2002 with our infant son. We loved the area and therefore decided to rent from Pelican Landing. Our main concern at that time was finding a first floor apt. because of our son and Pelican Landing was the only community with one available. Our problem started the day we moved in. The apartment was "NOT CLEANED" prior to us moving in. Here we are with a baby, all of our belongings in a U-Haul truck, and a nasty apartment to move into. Imagine the disgust. It gets worse. Upon walking through the apartment my mother in-law proceeds to tell me that our inside storage closet smelled really bad. Indeed it was the most offensive odor I have ever encountered in my entire life. We honestly thought that something crawled in and died in that closet. I immediatly called the front office and short of tears and anger, told the girl of our findings. What really made me upset at this point was that she had just told us that another leasing consultant had walked through our apt. and that it was looking great. If a dirty apt. with a foul smelling closet is great, then I would hate to see the opposite. Two days later (after me and my mother had cleaned the apt.) house keeping proceeded to enter my home only to slam the door upon seeing it filled with boxes. We complained about the foul smelling closet, the carpet(which smelled like pet urine) and a few other things. It took them a month to clean the carpet and housekeeping came in and sprayed some kind of chemical into the storage closet only to make the smell 10x´s worse. That closet still wreaks to this day (10 months later). We´ve been unable to use that closet and thus lost much needed storage space. The bathrooms do not have proper ventilation and now we have to deal with mold and mildew and that musty smell. My husband and I have been quite ill the past couple of months and now I know it is due to the mold and mildew. My son is 16 months old and I refuse to stay in this place for fear of him getting sick and me and my husband getting sicker. The management at this place is horrible and they act like they could care less about the issues within your apartment. They never do follow ups either. Please speak with the tenants before moving into these apartments. We are now seeking legel counsel.

Thank You.
