Resident 2007 - 2009

3/10/2009

I have lived in Gainesville all my life and I have been through my share of appartment complexes through college and after. Worst place I have ever tried to live in Gainesville. We came in right when it was being sold and the new management took over. I don't know what it was really like before but now it's awful. It's pretty small for what the rent is, and they don't fix things when you tell them they're broken. Our bathtub has had a crack in it since we moved in and has leaked into the closet downstairs causing a bunch of water damage. I would say it was probably like that for at least a year before they actually did anything. Instead of us getting a new tub, we have a pretty large rough brown patch in the bottom of our tub. The tubs got hairline cracks all in it so I'm sure it's gotta still be leaking but hey, at least it ain't a waterfall now right? haha. Our AC has gone out at least 3 times and it takes them at least 2 days to come look at it. The last time it went out, the firemen were knocking on our door b/c it was on fire outside, not an inferno or anything but someone noticed and called them out. So we now have a new AC unit, geez, about time. We also had our water heater go out and it got water all over the kitchen and a little of the carpet and it was 2 in the morning and it took them over 2 hours to come over here and make it stop flooding. The cost of utilities here is ridiculous. There are 3 sliding glass doors, 2 down and one up and let me tell you, I have almost gone broke paying money to GRU. The insulation is crap. This past winter, I left my heater on 65 and it ran and ran and ran and it could never get it up to even 65 when it was really cold. So we were pretty much freezing. I ended up buying a space heater just so we could keep warm. My electricity bill got to as high as 260 bucks for one month. And it's not like we use a lot of electricity besides the tv and computer. I've never had a bill that high ever. And if you don't think it's a bad idea to live in a gated community think again. It spends more time being broken then actually working and you only get one gate key, you have to pay for the other one. Well 2 people are on my lease, how is that fair? Luckily they have this cool box outside and instead of calling to be let in, all you really have to do is hit pound 1234 and like magic it opens. It doesn't help in keeping people out because it's open during the day anyways. We had this chick that would ride in here on her bike during the day people, during the day. She would bang on doors (bang, not knock, like on cops) and ask for money. She banged on our door twice. Finally one day we were coming out of our house to check the mail (we locked the door just to walk to the mail box) and there she is again so my boyfriend told her off and she tried to tell him she lived here. She dipped out and took a right and if you've ever been here, you know what kind of neighborhood is to the right. Definitely not worth our money at all. Unless you like to be stressed out and frustrated that you don't have enough room to live I would tell you to forget it and keep looking. There are better places in Gainesville for the same amount of money and some are even a tad less than here.
