Resident 2011

12/1/2011

Perfect for Health Science Center

Ideal location if you have classes in or around Shands. It is a short 2-3 minute bike ride or less than 10 minute walk to get over there. Once across the street you have access to tons of campus and city buses. The buildings are white brick and very cute and homey. It is a professional community that is practically silent. The only noise I ever hear is the Shands helicopters but I think it's cool :)As a female I feel very safe. I live in the 2 bedroom townhouse with my boyfriend and we absolutely love it! After living in a small 1 bedroom in midtown I would never live anywhere else in Gainesville. The apartment is 1,000 sqft with equal sized floors. The townhouses are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the buildings so there are no upstairs neighbors for me. All of the apartments have two entrances; one with a porch and the other a covered entryway with stairs. There are various size porches, we chose the smaller porch because it has a slightly bigger bedroom. There are stairs inside the apartment with 2 bedrooms upstairs and 1 full bath. There is plenty of closet space. If you are living as a couple we use the slightly smaller bedroom with a huge walkin clost as an office/man cave. Downstairs there is a huge living room, 1/2 bath, and kitchen/dining room. The living room is large enough that one side has the couch/TV and the other has my desk so I have a rather large study space. The dining room is small, but large enough for a table and there is a bar that is big enough to eat at. The kitchen is huge with plenty of cabinets,a full size stove/oven, and standard refrigerator/freezer.On our porch we have just enough grill that we use all the time. The staff is very helpful and Val the manager is amazing. We had an issue with one of our outside doors that was delayed for one reason or another. She called me several times to update me on the process and was very apologetic. The maintenance staff is knowledgeable and quick to fix any issues I've had. The apartment complex is VERY pet friendly. If you adopt your cat/dog they waive the pet deposit completely and only charge you $10-15 per month depending on the animal (very reasonable for Gainesville). There are plenty of trees around the property and many poopy bag stands for your dog poo. The only "complaint" I have is being in the townhouse our electric bill can be up to $160/month when we use the AC because it is two stories and older AC unit. When it comes down to it for us with rent, cable, and electricity we pay ~$500 each per month to live with no roommates in a great apartment complex and at an ideal location. It's worth it to us to pay a little bit more and have no roommates. (FYI there is a 2 bedroom flat and the electric bill is a lot less, also in Gainesville the electricity per kwH is really expensive anyway)
