Resident 2010 - 2013

10/21/2013

A honest review. I lived at Belle Rive Club Apts for a little over 2 years. I will give an honest review based upon my experience living there. PRO's: 1. My apartment faced the lake so I found it to be quiet and really didn't hear my neighbors too much. 2. Centrally located. Great access to the highway (I-95), shopping and dining. 3. I had an upgraded unit with the new hardwood & tile floors and kitchen cabinets. Those were nice touches. 4. Washer/dryer in unit. CON's: 1. Safety. Several incidents of vandalism/theft to vehicles. Someone attempted to steal my brand new tires off my car in the middle of the night. I don't know of any attempted break-in's to the apartments, but I worried about my vehicle after the above incident. No security here at all. You are basically on your on. 2. Poorly lit property. This ties into the safety issue. The lighting is very inadequate so the walkways have little to no illumination on them. Sparse lamp posts on the property cast minimal light onto the parking spaces but still very dark overall. More lighting/updated lighting is desperately needed. 3. Partial upgrades to upgraded units. I will explain this one. They upgraded my unit with new hardwood floors, bedroom ceiling fan, and microwave oven and kitchen cabinets; however, the oven, dishwasher and bathroom vanity were the originals (from around 1989-1990 when the bldg was first constructed). If you're going to upgrade an apt, why not upgrade the entire apt and charge more in rent? I would have paid more in rent to have everything updated instead of a partial upgrade. They spend boucoup bucks for plastic mulch (yes, plastic mulch) to line the front of the bldgs but can't provide residents with a contemporary oven to match the new microwave? Hello... 4. Water bill. Unmetered so you are charged based on a formula which basically means you are paying for other residents' water, sewer & trash in addition to your own. 5. Zero amenities. A pool that is rarely open during summer and one in which the condo residents frequent. I guess they have pool privileges too? Clubhouse which isn't conducive to residents entertaining guests and the exercise room in that club house seemed non-existent/restricted to office hours (assuming someone was available in the office - very limited staff). 5. The owner doesn't seem to want to invest in the property. He just doesn't seem to care. I think all this property represents to him is a tax write-off. And that lack of concern reflects in how this complex gradually keeps going downhill. I liked living there at first but that changed quickly. I believe the above concerns could be minimized if the owner elected to actually invest in the property. The budget is probably too small to allow for management to make the necessary changes that would make this community a better place to live for its residents. There are a few more con's to list but I chose the ones that affected me the most during my stay there. Not the worst property to call home, but not the best either. You get what you pay for. If you can afford to pay a little more, check out some other apt complexes. No place is perfect, but there are better properties on the Southside.
