Resident 2003 - 2005 Not Recommended
Reviewed 10/06/2005
I have been a happy resident for 3 years..until my latest renewal. I always thought the comments on this site were less than kind as we never had one problem with the complex. Issues were resolved quickly and professionally whether it was maintenance or management. However, for this renewal, the management chose NOT to honor a signed agreement to never be charged for a garage as long as I was a resident of the complex due to minor problems when I signed my original lease...a generous concession to apologize for an error on their part. I was told basically by the property manager that the agreement was not worth the paper it was written on even though it was a valid addendum with no term constraints on the original document. End result? Rent went up $150 a month and I was told I was being done a favor or quote, "it could have been worse." So basically, be careful what you sign, and realize the concessions are designed to sucker you in and you will pay for it next time you renew. Could I move out? Nope. Not an option. I was offered a new lease with one month to go on the old lease when two months is the standard. Of course I was offered an extension to compensate for their error but with the market what it is in the Hunter's Creek area, there is little availability. The office preaches the "family" atmosphere in the complex and we bought into it for the first couple years we were here. Obviously that mantra has changed and it has become a matter of meeeting quotas and commission requirements. Be very careful before considering renting here. I unfortunately am stuck for another year. Don't let it happen to you. And as a parting shot? When I asked to explain the $150 increase? The answer from the property manager was, "I challenge you to go find an apartment for what we are charging you...SOME people went up $400 a month." My spouse works in real estate...we know the market...have been 20 year renters...we have never been treated like this in the multiple complexes across several states that we have rented in. Not once. I will say in all fairness that the management decided to quote "do me another favor" by splitting the garage cost...but it should have never gotten to this point in the first place. You have been warned.
