Resident · 2012
The Fountains Apartment complex formerly known as Union Square, and before that it was called Tanglewood. We moved in while it was still called Union Square. The staff seemed really nice and friendly until we actually moved in, but it didn't take very long to find out that they would take their sweet time getting things fixed, and when I went up to the leasing office to pay the rent it seemed as though they were irritated instead of friendly. We did catch a little bit of a break on the rent a year ago, but I think they just wanted to keep the move-outs as low as possible till the new Property Management company took over which is Landmark, and they are pretty ruthless in their attitude towards residents from what I can tell. They don't fix things properly, they wasted money on new address signs and a decorative fountain which are on the street within the property. We now have a three tone building, one of the colors is our original color which light tan, the two new colors are an ugly green on the walls, and a just as ugly brown on some of the doors, our door is the same color as it has always been. All our appliances are way outdated, and our food items actually fall out of the fridge/freezer onto the floor if the doors aren't opened real carefully. Our A/C smells pretty rank from time to time, the outside is not well maintained as far as cleanliness goes. We have foreign exchange workers who work at a couple of golf resort clubs who don't mind being as loud as they can late at night. We have our share of ------ homeboy types living here. We have school buses that are way outdated and noisy coming in the mornig and the afternoon right onto the property. I called the office one day to ask about whether or not I would be able to pay my water bill online, and instead of the guy just answering the question he actually accused me of yelling at him. Needless to say, I stood up to him and asked him if there was someone else I could speak with, he acted as though he was trying to find someone, and then comes back on and answered my question the way he should have in the first place. Now we can view our bill online, but we have to go to the leasing office to pay the water bill. Knowing what I know now, I would never recommend The Fountains to anyone, no matter how much they knock off of the rent for refering people to the property. In all fairness here, I think that this property that I reviewed has potential, and I am willing to bet other properties that I've read about on here do too. But there seems to be this prevailing attitude here in South Florida of We'll get to it when we feel like getting to it and things are what they are, and if you don't like it, well you don't have to live here. Forget that!!! I am pretty certain that all states have Slumlord laws as well as health and safety codes that these apartment communities have to comply with, but if they refuse then we need to envolve the proper authorities. I also think that one or two people moving out here and there won't have too much of an impact, but if ten or more tenants get together and agree to all leave at the same time, that would speak volumes because it would hit them hard in their pocket book, and nowadays that seems to be what it's gonna take to wake these people up to the fact that renters will not put up with them refusing to keep their property clean, safe and well maintained inside and outside. Also there are so many things that they can use as write offs on their taxes, but even though that's the case good tenants who already pay an excessive amount of rent and pay their rent on time still have their rents being raised every year with no justification for the increase.
