Resident 2011 - 2013

7/26/2013

My wife and I lived at Willoughby Cove for 2 years. The grounds, buildings, and common areas were kept up better than most places I have seen. The pool was immaculate and the grilles and picnic tables were in good shape. Other reviews complain about lack of parking. It was never an issue for us. The complex was relatively quiet for the number of units in it and always felt safe. The maintenance staff were always quick to respond to issues and generally fixed problems by the second visit. The apartment's appliances were base models and fixtures were contractor grade. Maintenance staff replaced burnt out bulbs in apartment s fixtures upon request. Bulbs were always low grade and non-energy efficient styles. Our walls, except the kitchen and bathrooms, were finished in a flat white which can be a challenge to keep clean. Since the complex is gated, a contracted garbage service picks up trash at your doorstep five nights a week. This seemed like a great perk, but we quickly realized a garbage service fee is tacked on to the water bill. We also had a difficult time making any garbage bag fit the can they gave us, and we resorted to purchasing our own. The garbage men were supposed to sort recycling bags from regular garbage, but I m pretty certain they never did. During our time there Willoughby Cove changed owners from RAM Realty, primarily a development company, to Atlantic Pacific Management, which appears to specialize in management of multi-unit properties. I don't know if it was just a coincidence or actual changes in procedure, but the move seemed to signal a change in how tenants were treated. For instance, while under RAM we were given a voucher to have the carpets cleaned. While I'm certain in was mainly to keep the carpets in good condition, it was a nice gesture. A year later when we were leaving with the complex now managed by Atlantic, we were sent a letter stating that we had to pay for the carpets to be cleaned prior to leaving. We were also required to have the apartment professionally cleaned. They required a receipt for both cleaning services. When I approached onsite management, I was told this was a new requirement under Atlantic and to just allow their contracted cleaning companies to do it because they received the services at a discounted price. No one in the management office could give me the actual costs for their services, only rough estimates, and it was suggested that I call their cleaning companies for those figures. We painted some walls in our apartment and had to paint them back prior to moving out. We followed the directions given to us by the management office, but the paint store ended up giving us the incorrect color. This took some time and effort to clear up, but the situation was taken care of with help from the office. Our two years at Willoughby were relatively uneventful and we were overall satisfied with the apartment.
