The window A/C unit was not adequate for a 2BR apt, the thermostat did not work, and had to keep A/C on all the time. Water and mold built up causing both of us to contract pneumonia, and I could not return to work for 3 weeks. We were not allowed to see the apt before we moved in, because we were told someone was still living there, which we later found out was not true. There was at least one snake around our door 3-4 ft in length, making my wife fear she would be bitten. The manager would not get rid of it,although it had already bitten a child, causing his leg to swell and resulting in his having to be taken for medical treatment. The manager said she liked snakes, because she used to own one. The kitchen was in the back, with no window or other adequate ventilation for the cooking vapors, so we had to open the front door and set up a fan near the door, and turn on the bathroom fan.
We were assessed an exorbitant fee for carpet cleaning, even though the carpet was clean. My wife and I had spent hours cleaning the apartment. The deposit check did not arrive until after two months, and when we deposited it, the check bounced because the company (Empirian Property Management) had stopped payment on it. Calls to the District Manager were never returned and we had to file a complaint with the State of Florida. If they lose their license it will be their own fault.
