PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS!!! Be patient, because I'm going to give you the full rundown with several specifics. Abbey West is not a good place to live. If I could go back in time and sign my lease somewhere else, I would - even if it meant I had to pay $200 more. The maintenance staff is somewhat friendly, but every problem we asked them to fix was not fixed, and we had to do it ourselves. We spent our own money fixing the problems that they were too lazy or unqualified to fix. During the spring and late summer months, there were cockroaches everywhere, and the spray they used to "fix it" did absolutely nothing. The dishwasher was disgusting when we moved in, and when we finally cleaned and ran it, it leaked all over the kitchen. The oven was covered in grease, and it was almost impossible to get the grease off because it had been there so long. The showers were clogged when we moved in, and continued to clog about once every four months, and we had to unclog them ourselves - and yes, it was a (gross) nightmare. We were always overcharged for utilities, and when I called the utility company, he said, "Oh yeah, I don't think it's you guys, I think it's the complex itself because your unit has a history of being overcharged," and Abbey West did nothing about it. We had to constantly monitor the AC and lights in the apartment to make sure we weren't going over in charges - yet every time, we still went over. There is a problem with the way they built the place. Our neighbors came upstairs 3 separate times telling us we were stomping around, causing light bulbs to fall out of their ceiling, and making it impossible for them to sleep - all we had been doing was walking around. That's how thin the walls and ceilings are. In addition to that, the noise from the highway/maintenance coming out at 9am with their leaf blowers made it impossible to sleep-in, so you might as well take that 8am class. I know they say they have a shuttle service, however, it is completely unreliable. There were multiple occasions where I came to the shuttle 5-10 minutes before it was supposed to depart, and the driver told me I had to leave because it was full - I didn't have a parking pass, so I had to spend money on an uber, which is completely unacceptable. The shuttle is never on schedule, and the afternoon shuttle did not get me to class on-time. Additionally, the night shuttle on the weekends either came every hour or didn't come at all EVEN THOUGH the apartment complex promised its tenants they would be able to ride the shuttle home from downtown. We spoke with a guy who had been waiting for the shuttle for 2 hours because the app showed the shuttle was on and running, but it stayed at the apartment complex and never actually came downtown. Also, the "gated community" claim is a complete lie - anyone can sneak in through the gate and there were multiple occasions where I saw random older men in hoods walking around our parking lot - scary, right? Don't use the gym if you're a runner either; every time I tried to use a treadmill, none of them worked. If you're in a sorority/frat like I am, then you will be separated from everything because Abbey West is so far. On the website, they say it's "just minutes away" from UGA, and that is FALSE. It is a 15 minute drive from UGA. I have not yet officially moved out, but I have a strong feeling that I'll be charged for a lot of things that I either cleaned, had no control over, or asked them to fix and they did not. Basically, don't live there. It absolutely sucks.
