Same here I was ripped off with my deposit and application fee of $200. I should have been alarmed when they only accept money order for the application fee and security deposit. They quoted me lower price. And once I paid for the application fee and deposit of $200 in money order as it is non refundable, they called me back a day later to tell me that the rent is actually more. The lady made a mistake. I wasn't happy but I let it go as I was too tired of apartment hunting. Two weeks went by. Then I received another call telling me that the apartment won't be ready due to the delay in their maintenance that they can't get the new apartment ready in time. I gave them more than a month time in advance the get the new apartment ready. And I can't over stay my old apartment contract because once I've given them a notice, they already scheduled a new tenant the move in date. There is a 13 days gab between and here I was with no place to live. When I asked for the application fee and deposit back, she said that it is none refundable. And when I explained that it's not my fault, she said that it's not that they don't have an apartment for me but they just won't have it in time. I feel like I've been taken for a ride! $200 is more than a two-day-work for me.
