Pines on Scott Apartments
Resident · 2001 - 2016
R. James Properties (owners of the Pines) are a good management company. I have lived in the Pines on Scott Apartments since 2001 and my rent has only gone up $200 in 15 years. The folks in the office have always been kind and fair and improvements to the property and our buildings is an ongoing thing. If I've needed anything like a new A/C, stove, carpeting or dishwasher, they were provided to me without hesitation. If I have concerns about neighbors, they are dealt with very well by management. I've never gotten a shrug or a "I can't fix this" and I appreciate that. I have friends who live in bigger more modern complexes who have to deal with flighty, disorganized office managers (with lots of turn around), incompetent maintenance people and management companies who raise rent by hundreds of dollars every year yet are reluctant to improve tenant's units when asked. The Pines on Scott are kept affordable, clean, safe and quiet. I feel respected as a tenant. I really enjoy living here. It's an ideal location: within walking distance of downtown Decatur and a boat load of terrific restaurants, coffee places and shopping. There are several grocery stores nearby. Access to public transportation is a block away. The neighborhood is a terrific mixture of Emory students, CDC employees, young families and Senior Citizens. It's close to other areas of the city like Midtown and the Highlands and close to the highway, as well. The only cons for me (and they are mild enough that I've never wanted to leave because of it): the buildings were built in the 1950's, so they are not modern, but they are well-maintained. The walls are thin, too. If you've got quiet neighbors, it's no problem, but if there are kids living on the second floor, it's pretty noisy below when they run around. Fortunately, the tenants are pretty quiet and respectful and if they are not, management handles them very well.
