Resident 2014 - 2017

4/5/2017

I lived in from 2014 to early 2017, when it was still called something else besides Villas At Laner. At the beginning, it was a nice place to live. Friendly stuff and rent was affordable. Around mid 2016, a lot of unnecessary changes came including the changing of names and signs of the apartment complex, new fencing, and re-painting of doors. That's fine and dandy but guess whose pocket it came out of? I have never seen rent sky-rocket so much. The garbage disposal is CONSTANTLY piled up the sky as if they were building a ladder to Heaven and don't get me stared with that speed bump. When you want to move out, you have to get them a THREE MONTHS notice. Let me repeat that, THREE a month or if you don't renew the contract they will charge you out of the --- for those months. During the last two weeks I stayed there, the oven broke and I had to ask maintenance again and again to please come fix it, never happened. Not only that, but it seems like there's always something going on there. Something going on that's going to annoy you. Rather it's… See More>

    Resident 2015

I've been leaving here for about six months and overall, this is a nice place to live. The management just started patching potholes up and cleaning the place up a bit and that's really appreciated. The apartments are very nice and spacey. This part of the town in spoty (nice in one area, crappy in the next) but the apartment complex is nice and clean. No crime. No problems with bugs or anything like that. We live in a 1 bedroom on the bottom floor. The only small problems are we hear people going up and down the steps a lot (but that's at any apartment complex), the lawn-mower people always start mowing really early....like 7AM, and last but not least (this is my major complaint), there is no way you can turn your own porch-light off. I understand that it's for safety purposes and they want the building to be well lit at night but the porch light shines SO brightly in our bedroom that it's hard for us to sleep so we took the lightbulb out. However, the HALL LIGHT from the outside shines so brightly that even with the porch light out, it's still ridiculously light in… See More>

This has got to be the absolute worst place to live. My fianc and i moved here because it was affordable, but with affordable comes lots of problems. Ever since the summer we have had a nonstop bug problem. Out of the many times we have complained the management has only sent out their cheap pest control twice. I still have bugs.. Also i was put on a waitlist for a two bedroom in August since i have a two month old son and id like to have him in his own room, never heard a response about it. This place is not worth the price, the manager is hardly around and doesn't help the residents of this community. I cant wait for my lease to be over so i can raise my child in a CLEAN AND FRIENDLY neighborhood

        Resident 2013

I moved to the Columns in November 2013 and I have to say Kym bent over backwards to have everything approved and my apartment ready by my move in date. So far I'm loving it here. Rent is reasonable. The maintenance staff along with Kym the leasing agent are awesome. They seem to really care about the property and the residents rather than looking at it as merely a JOB. I feel safe and comfortable here. My neighbors are great. I guess I lucked up because I have GREAT neighbors above and beside me. We seem to have this unspoken bond where everyone seems to look out for each other. Contrary to other post, I have seen no roaches (knock on wood). At this point, I have no complaints other than I would like to see a little more security visibility. We supposedly have an onsite security officer which I've never seen other than one time in the office. Maybe they're just onsite for problems that may occur and not for viability. Not really sure what the deal is there, but so far it hasn't been an issue. If the next 6 months go as well as the past 6… See More>

I rented here from March of 2012 to Dec.2012 Kim is GREAT, she made my stay pleasent and was always willing to offer assitance. My dishwasher leaked and they were right on it. The kitchen sink backed up and they got right to it. The atmosphere is family oriented-it was just me, my dog and cat but it was a nice place to come back to after work. Utilities were very low-and there was very little sound from the apartment above me, they must be well insulated.

My husband and I were looking for a decent apartment to move into, and The Columns at Chicopee seems to be just that, for the most part, especially after the horrendous experience at Lake Lanier Club. Pros: good price on rent, nice layout of apt, very friendly and helpful manager (Kym), automatic patio lights Biggest Con: NOISY NEIGHBORS!!! Seriously, we live on the ground floor, and we can hear EVERYTHING the neighbors upstairs are doing. They might as well be walking on our ceiling. It would probably be tolerable if they didn't have kids. But when they run around it's incredibly loud and the light fixtures vibrate, especially when they decide it's fun to jump from the bed to the floor. It drives me nuts and I don't think I'll ever get used to it. Also, the neighborhood kids frequently use our parking lot as a playground up until 10:00 at night. Other cons: Bugs galore. It was infested with spiders until I sprayed it to death and put weatherseal under the door. I had never had a problem with roaches before until I moved here. So it's not because we're dirty. It seems to be a widespread problem. I hate the front… See More>

Overall I have to say that I am very happy with my lease. Leasing staff has been nice. The grounds are well kept. I have lived at other places, and this has been by far the nicest. For apartment living I am satisfied!!

My fianc and I were really excited to move in. Despite a few bad reviews, we still wanted to since the apartments are beautiful inside and out as far as the layout. After being in our new home for just two days, our car was broken into and they stole everything. We woke up to see some of our items sprawled out on the lawn. They took over $1,000 of stuff including stereo speakers tools and designer glasses. How appalled we were. After telling mgt what happened we expected them to do SOMETHING to alleviate the problem, but just offered an apology. Also the area in front of our apt does not have adequate lighting. We recently acquired a dog in case someone were to try to break in our home. They supposedly have a courtesy officer that lives on site but after being here a week still have not observed her anywhere. We "paged" her after the incident and our call wasn't even returned. Make sure you take precaution before moving here.. Other than that as soon as food was in the kitchen roaches came from the wood works. Long story short everything that glitters isn't gold.… See More>

This place would be a lot better if everyone would abide by the simple rules! I have several neighbors who cant seem to keep there dogs on a leash. As soon as the staff leaves apartment 2113 lets all three of her dogs big and small run loose.. Not to mention no one ever cleans up the mess so you have to really be careful where your walking... Several notices have been sent out so its not like they don't know!

                    Battled roaches entire time

We moved in last June, but we are leaving the end of June this year because we just can't handle the roaches, despite the spacious apartment. The grounds and the apartments themselves are nice, as is maintenance and staff, but we've had pest control out at least once or twice a month since we moved in and we STILL have roaches. We follow all the tips and tricks to get rid of them, but nothing works. We've been told by pest control that it may be because of the surrounding apartments not being as diligent, and that the other buildings in the community aren't having such difficulties, but I take all that with a grain of salt. Other than that, my only other gripe would be the cheapness of the shower faucets and the stove. The faucet spins 360 degrees, so it's too easy to leave it trickling without realizing it. The stove has only one large eye and ALL of them are bent at angles so everything cooks uneven. They also painted over the surface to make it appear newer, but in routine cleaning, we've ended up scraping most of the paint off. Some of the 3 bedroom apts… See More>

                      Coporate not willing to listen!

I currently live on the property (4yrs), I just renewed my lease, and one of the main reasons for renewal was the Leasing Staff. The property is really nice, clean, and family orientated which is awesome because I do not have to worry about loud music or partying until all hours of the night. I never had a problem that the Leasing Staff did not take care of immediately. My, only complaint is corporate! I recently spoke to someone, who I will not name, about offering residents who continued to renew, a 13-month lease. OM!! She acted as if I was asking for free rent! I tried to explain I used to be a leasing agent and that was something we offered to our residents as an incentive to stay and the rent would be divided out over the 13 months...winner all the way around. She started talking over me and continued to say, Gosh, we don t need to do that. We don t have to give it away! I was like What? I was not suggesting corporate give away anything and I do believe everyone on the property pay… See More>

Yes I have bugs & small problems

I've lived here for almost 2 years. I love my apartment. It's very spacious & well kept. The management's great to me & if you have any problems maintenance is literally there the same day per your request. I have seen lots of roaches lately & yes the neighborhood has gone down hill. Though I've never had my car broke into, my neighbor did just 2 weeks ago. It's also anoying when your'e trying to drive thru the parking lot & you have people walking down the middle of the road who refuse to move & you have to drive around the skateboarders. They were advised to not ride in the apt. complex, but management needs to follow up w/ there rules because these kids don't listen. Also, parents don't watch their kids so you might almost run over a kid almost every day.

                          Knowledge is power.

It was probably alright place to live at some point but its went down hill along with the area. The first week my wife lived there someone broke into the car and tried to steal the radio. Also, my car was stolen and just recently my neighbors car was broken into shortly after they moved in. There is a fence in the back that separates Catalina from the Columns. People have broken this fence and walk from Catalina to the Complex. Management knows its broken and they refuse to fix it.Also in the back people that don't live there like to park and do drugs or have relations or whatever back there . There is a Courtesy officer, but good luck getting him to do anything, just call police first. Lots of a domestic violence calls. The worst was when some lady cut her boyfriends hand with a machete because he cheated. Proof of this is where they had to pressure wash the sidewalk where he dripped blood when he ran outside(very back building). They seem to have a high turnover rate and they pretty much let anyone move in. Roaches you will get them. How bad you get them depends on… See More>

I am a resident here. I dont have roaches, I do have spiders coming from outside but office staff sent pest control and we are fine now. The property is clean. Inside the apartments is nice, the apartemnt has a big closet, I like my master bedroom, it is big and it is bright. I dont like the area that much but I dont have any problem since I moved here on July last year.

It is true the bugs are very bad there. I had them coming out of outlets, out from carpet and in through air vents, crawling on my bed. Absolutely a health hazard especially should you have children.

Beautiful, priced well, excellent management, a steal!!!

I loooooooooove this location. I came from Lake Lanier Club in Gainesville, which was a TOTAL nightmare. They overcharged, thought too highly of their outdated community, and treated tenants like just a number. Columns at Chicopee was the last place I looked. Because of the location, I had always assumed it was government housing, but my agent at ProMove.com referred me here. I decided to give it a shot. The prices are VERY cheap - between $150-$200 cheaper for a 1 bedroom than all of the other nice complexes in Gainesville. AND, it's much larger. My 1 bedroom is 900 square feet!! I also thought the noise would be terrible, but only one of the buildings has 1BR apartments, so I live in a building with other single people or young married folks with no kids. So I never hear noise. It's everything that I wanted in an apartment - beautiful interior, huge kitchen, updated furnishings, young (only 4 years old), cheap, excellent management, safe, and quiet. I agree that sometimes the trash compactor is overflowing, but big deal!! Otherwise, it's a beautiful place and their location… See More>

At first, the staff was very agreeable and helpful. Recently, a new manager and co-manager took over the position and I have since then, changed my positive opinion. Notices have been sent out to residents for inspection, extermination and so forth, which I have respected and accepted as mandatory for upkeep of the facility. However, these notices have contained false information about proceedures, and times upon which they will be arriving. Because of this, I managed to have an employee come into the apartment while I was getting out of the shower, unclothed, (without knocking) because I was misinfored as to their arrival time. When I questioned the manager about the wrong information, I was acused of "not reading the notice correctly" and was treated in a very rude manner. Overall, the quality of service has declined. The campus is unkept, the pool is always dirty and closed, the garbage compactor overflows constantly. I am not an ugly person and can usually see all sides to the story, I am greatly dissapointed. I WILL be relocating once our lease is over.
