Resident 2014 - 2015

2/6/2015

I have lived at Alexandra for the past year, and on the whole I do enjoy it. The apartments are bright and clean and for the most part updated and spacious. Our dishwasher is rather dated but it does work, so I can understand why it's still there. The rooms are big and the closets are great. I do wish there was more counter space for kitchen appliances. We live on the 3rd floor and our deck is teeny tiny but you can fit a small chair out there and it works for smokers. I do know they recently started allowing dogs and have always allowed cats, but we don't have either so I couldn't tell you much on that front. The utilities are generally pretty reasonable. Our electric did jump quite a bit when it was really really cold but that's to be expected. Our AC and heat have worked perfectly. It's a little annoying to not know exactly how much your rent + water will be month to month but it's a pretty minor fluctuation. We really haven't needed much maintenance but when we have they have been in either that day or the next, sometimes before we're even ready for it. Our stove was replaced immediately when the oven stopped working and on the whole I'm extremely pleased with maintenance. They also do a good job of keeping the steps clear of ice and generally things are kept decently clean. Somehow even though there are only 2 washers and dryers per building I've never had a problem getting one. I don't think I've waited once. I haven't had an extensive amount of interactions with the office management but what I have has been pleasant. They accept packages for you which is a great feature for anyone who does online shopping and the office ladies are pretty friendly. We were late with rent one month, I emailed explaining why and they were totally fine with it. I was pretty worried since it's technically managed by a company but it wasn't a problem at all (we of course paid late fees but that's to be expected). I will say the monthly newsletter thing is rather silly and I would much rather it come in electronic form than on my door, but that's extremely minor. My only true dislike is some of the other tenants. While they don't allow Section 8 it does remind me sometimes of a low income complex. Lots of kids roaming everywhere (which I don't have a problem with until they're insanely loud or obnoxious), I have no idea how many people lived in the 2 apartments below us but they were insanely loud. They did leave early on in our lease and it's been pretty quiet ever since. Overall, I would definitely recommend Alexandra. It's a nice apartment, decent price, just take your neighbors with a grain of salt.
